Parker Inflection Flighter medium, with J. Herbin Lie de The.

It's hard work to tell which is Old Harry when everybody's got boots on.

A Duofold Senior, small imprint with one band, so I think that makes it 1926 or 1927:

I chanced upon a lucky find: a striped Duofold Junior pen and pencil set (c. 1940-45?) in a gift box. I am not sure, but I think Parker called this color style "Dusty Red." True?

The nib is not a real flex, but it does have some give that allows for a bit of line variation.

Nice find. I saw a similar set last fall at the Heart of Ohio Antiques Mall; passed on it because it was the weekend of the Ohio Pen Show, and figured that I could always check back on the weekend (I usually can't do the whole of OPS because of a prior commitment on Sunday). Only instead, I picked up a blue Laidtone (not a set, just the pen) at one of the tables for about the same price -- but worth it IMO because it has a semi-flex oblique nib on it. But I could see myself picking up a red one at some point in the future as well because it was such a pretty color....

So my observation in some other thread was true, Ruth. You are after red pens like my wife is. Is it something to do with femininity in general? Lol.

Using this '45' CT, with Cross black ink. A very consistant fine line from the steel nib.

Nope. I actually prefer blue. And the Laidtone I ended up getting at OPS is blue.

My next (hopeful) Parker acquisition will be an Emerald Pearl Vac. I just seem jinxed, though -- every time I think that's next in the shopping cart something happens (most recently that the pen wasn't as advertised, and then the return became an Epic Fail, thanks to the USPS...; I think I've *finally* gotten it straightened out, and have at least gotten the refund). Usually it's not this level of sturm und drang though; a couple of years ago I had a couple of them scoped out, but then my eye fell onto this cute little Vac Brown Shadow Wave.... I'd go for a green Shadow Wave, too, except they're always way more than I can afford. And while I'm really fond of the Red Shadow Wave (which I'm still shocked and amazed I didn't get outbid on), it's not a particularly "girly" red. And my absolute favorite pen is a Plummer 51 Aero; with the Noodler's ebonite Konrad Methuselah's Pine Cone Ripple being right up there.... And the sentimental favorite is the lowly blue Vector that was my first "good" pen, which developed a crack in the barrel last fall.... :-( So at some point that barrel gets replaced. With blue, thanks....

Back on topic, though. Today's Parker is a Silver Pearl Vac Major, F(?) nib, sporting De Atramentis Silver Grey.

Trying and slowly rebuilding this '58/'59 51 Aerometric, it has a few leaks but a very good nib,14k broad, made in UK.

Frontier Metallic Gray with J. Herbin Cacao du Bresil. This pen's been sitting in a drawer waiting for the right ink to come along; as soon as I saw the ink for myself, I knew it was the one.
