Thanks LWES for a lovely show - it was my first, and definitely won't be my last. Also finally got round to actually joining up :)

I went and it was a real eye opener. Some of the sums of money being spent on pens were eyewatering. I learned quite a lot as well and joined the WES. I picked up a couple of bargains one I can't identify yet and one is a brand new Diplomat Optimist for £40. The seller told me it was an Esteem but I looked it up and it's an Optimist. I did want the Traveller but found it a little light.

I gave some pens for restoration so all in all a good day. I think I'll have to spend all year saving up for the next one.

My apologies also to the London Pen Meet members. We didn't get to meet as I have no short term memory and couldn't remember when and where plus the text I got too late.

Hi all...A great show as always even though I got there quite late after the train took me on a magical mystery tour. Here's a video for them that could not attend...Enjoy.

Thanks for posting the video.

That must have been around 3pm I guess. It certainly looks a lot quieter than earlier in the day! I'm even sitting down and I don't remember doing that until well into the afternoon.

Thank you for the video Grandmia! I was able to see some dear ones in motion.

Hi Martin...Yes it was rather late due to bad planning, and I missed all the hustle and bustle.

Thanks for posting that GrandMia.

It's frightening to see how many faces I recognise & put names to. Dear me.

Very nice to have a flavour of the show even though I wasn't able to get there.

Regards,

Richard.

Hi Richard...If I had arrived on time im sure you would have seen many more faces, I also missed others I wanted to meet.

No problem. I had a nice chat with your friend Henry and had a sneak prevue of the silver overlay on the new Onoto he is working on.

Thanks for the video ... as has been said, many of 'the usual suspects' :)

Do we have a thread for 2014? I cannot find it, and do hope/intend, this year, to be there (yes, on the right day, before anyone asks!!)

Also was looking for the 2014 Thread! I am so looking forward to finally be able to come this year, my second ever pen show! Booked flights and cant wait to get to meet some fellow FPNers! I also need some nibs looked at by John Sorowka, by the way should they be inked or empty for tuning/grinding? And how does the whole grind during the show work?

Thanks

Wish list: Aurora Optima

Current inked Pens: Pilot Decimo - Noodlers BBH, MB Mozart - MB Lavender

Pelikan M150 - Noodlers Kung te Cheng

Pens should be empty - and also because you are flying. John is always extra busy during the show so I would be there early.

Not quite sure what you mean by whole grind during the show.

The show is huge, great many tables and displays. Many find it a godd idea to have a couple of hours, then meet up with others for a coffee, there is a large Pret a Manger round the corner, the social side and contacts is just as enjoyable as the venue itself.

I think what they mean is how does it work getting him to grind a nib at the show. Last year I brought a pen that was a little on the scratchy side and he smoothed it right then and there, but I think much beyond that he'll be asking to take it away with himself to do the work at a later time and mail it back to you. For example, I don't think he'd be able to grind a standard nib into an italic while you wait, but maybe grind it down a size or two, I don't know. He certainly can smooth out nibs or adjust the flow for you while you wait.

He may pipe in and correct me, but I think that's what you can expect.

I would guess that, unless he is extra-busy, John would be able to complete most grinds while you wait, especially if he knows you are flying in & out .... but I am not making promises on his behalf :) He obviously doesn't want a queue around the block, and pens which need extra tweaks, such as flow adjustment, all take extra time.

I would second the advice about getting there early.

One of the nice things about the smaller shows is that there is usually more time to sit and watch the job being done, and to try it yourself before taking it away, to make sure it is just right for you.
