Best Entry Level Fountain Pen

The Lamy Nexx is a recent newcomer. The soft grip might be more comfortable than the regular Safari/Al-star.

I would *not* recommend the Noodler Pens as a first pen. 3rd, maybe. It can be finicky. Todd of Isellpens.com has them on close out. He also has lots of Hero pens. They're cheap enough to buy several to find a good one. I enjoyed using my Hero 360.

Faber Castell, if you want something a little more "grown-up" than the plastic Lamy Safari.

They are absolutely superb writers - a $30 Basic has no business writing as well as some of my pens costing 10 or 20x as much, but there you have it.

True bliss: knowing that the guy next to you is suffering more than you are.

Lamy Studio is a good step up from a Lamy Safari or Al Star.............or consider a Parker 45 that can be bought NOS on ebay just as cheaply!

Italix Parson's Essential, price might be little higher with shipping.

One boring blue, one boring black 1mm thickness at most....

Then there are Fountain Pens with gorgeous permanent inks..
