What Is Your Favourite Dark Teal Ink?

Hetty

Recommended Posts

I love really dark Teal inks, as dark as Blue-Black, but with a Teal tinge rather than blue. I have a Sailor Limited Edition ink from some years ago that is now discontinued and I am looking for other inks to replace it. Any suggestions would be very welcome, and, if they are readily available in the UK, that would be even better.

The Sailor ink is Yama Dori.

Thank you for your help.

Noodler's 54th Massachusetts is a dark ink. Lot of people say they see teal. It's one of my favorites but I don't see teal. But then, that color wasn't in my box of crayons growing up, so I might not even know what teal looks like.

Private Reserve Ebony Blue has a very teal-like tinge to my eye (image shamelessly stolen from the Goulet Pens website):

Parker's Quink, Blue Black, turns teal. It's horrible though due to fading.

BUT. J. Herbin makes an ink called Bleu Myosotis, and mixed with a drop of Perle Noir, it's a beautiful teal colour. Absolutely gorgeous.

Noodler's Air Corps Blue Black or Noodler's 54th Massachusetts.

Ding ding ding, we have a winner. Two of my favorite inks. Paradoxically, Air Corps Blue-Black is more green than blue, but both of these inks could be construed as dark teal.

Here they are, next to the aforementioned PR Ebony Blue which also looks great in the swab.

I have not yet found a suitable replacement for Yama-dori. Honestly, I don't even know anything that comes close. You might have to try mixing your own ink, starting with a solid blue and adding some green.

If you find something that looks like Yama-dori, please let me know! It is my 100% favourite ink.

I like Iroshizuku's Tsuki-yo, However with fine nibs its lighter coloured, fortunately with my Edison collier in broad, its very dark shading.

So we left it at that. He showed us the maneuver after a sort. B*****d stole my kill.'

I am filled with craving for this color and I am out of budget (for inks or anything else) for this month due to just ordering two Franklin Christoph inks! Luckily September is soon?

Thank you, everyone. Some excellent inks here. Unfortunately, it seems almost impossible to source Noodlers in the UK at the moment. I might to find the Private Reserve Ebony Blue. That looks gorgeous.

Oh, yes. Ebony Blue definitely would qualify as dark teal - and a lovely one at that. Have tried a sample; haven't purchased yet, because of higher priorities. But it's a worthy candidate.

The Writing Desk is an online site based in the UK and it sells Private Reserve inks for about 7 pounds a bottle. I'm guessing that there will be other retailers there that carry it as well.

I really love this ink - it is well-behaved, lovely, and shows great variation across my pens which I find interesting.

I wish I could say I had a favorite (dark) teal, but despite having 10 bottles of blue/teal ink that comprise half my small family of ink, I haven't found one that I love. Ebony blue has so much sheen that it looks like the beginning of each letter was inundated with red glitter, but it's too dark for me. I've been wondering what I might love - Noodler's Navy? Tsuki-yo? Twilight? Whatever it is, I'd like for it to at least resist being utterly effaced at the hands of an highly unlikely encounter with water. Maybe I should order samples?
