Double A Copy Paper Is Great!

Hi Everyone,

Just wanted to say that for those of you looking for quality copy/looseleaf paper the Double A paper sold in Amazon is incredibly smooth and reasonably priced (35$ per case).

As a student I needed a cheap solution for looseleaf so I printed the college ruled template (found on Incompetech website) on it and you can even print and write on both sides (very little shadow)

Agreed and that is why I have 5 reams sitting here just for FP use! I got it when Staples was discontinuing it!

Considering that their "case" is only 5 reams, it seems a bit expensive to me

Well it is almost the same price as the HP laserjet 24lb, and I hate HP with a burning passion so enter the Double A paper.

I've personally found the Double-A paper to be better for my needs than the HP paper. Like WOBentley, I was able to acquire some of the paper when Office Depot was discontinuing the line, so I'm well equipped for some time to come on that paper.

I've tried it and to be honest I find it quite bad. Colour are not bright, bleed and showthrough are bad as well.. also, is it acid free? what about chlorine free?

I use it for non archival purposes so acid and chlorine free are not an issue for my use. Also I do not know if the stuff I bought a while ago is the same as what you bought recently (?). I do not have bleed or show through problems in my use...

I am a regular Double A user as well and lucky enough never experienced the problems you indicate.
It is ECF (elementary chlorine free): only bleached with chlorine derivatives
I am very fond of their "Farmed Trees" concept and their commercials are also quite funny.

I have two cases of it acquired just before Office Depot discontinued carrying it. My main intent was to customize my Circa and Staples Arc notebooks using Double A. At first I thought it was above average, but then I was using rather dry, fine nibs. Using wetter nibs, it's not that great. There will be some bleed through with most ink/nib combos if the ink or nib is "wet". I haven't paid attention to any dulling of color but sometimes the line isn't crisp. However, I do love it for laser or ink jet printing, so am happy with it for printing purposes and will continue to buy it for that.

I'm currently trying some 24lb HP paper based on comments made here at FPN. I'm not particularly enamored with it either, but since I prefer lighter weight paper, I'll have to do some serious comparison between the two and decide which will suffice. At $12/ream for HP as compared to $7/ream for Double A, the HP paper has got to display some significantly improved performance for fountain pens. Fortunately my Circa/Arc notebooks were not intended for archival or storage but for short-term notes and project organization.

I haven't seen any of the commercials but the "farmed trees" marketing concept is a hoot here in the USA considering most paper products come from planted trees.

Farmed trees generally means that once rainforest has been clear-felled, it has been replaced with a mono-species ideal for paper. The disaster this has been causing to wildlife and bio-diversity is just as great as the original clear-felling.

Which HP paper exactly?

The original rainforest trees are not suitable for paper production due to the specific fibers. But I agree paper production stays to be rather controversial although the mills are trying to create a really good environmental statement.

Personally I don't believe in paperless:

This one: Second from the right. The 32# is highly recommended for FPs. I generally prefer lighter paper, so haven't ventured into trying it just yet.

Just discovered this web site with decent pricing per ream. Good to know as I begin a side by side comparison.

Double A's "farmed trees" is supposedly "green" to encourage Asian farmers into sustainably practices by keeping trees as a renewable source. Not sure what rainforest issues exist around Thailand and China.

:lticaptd: "Personally I don't believe in paperless". Me neither.

Sorry to bump an old thread but I was quite surprised to hear the mention of "Double A" copy paper. I'm a intern doctor in South East Asia in a very poor country called Bangladesh. After a year I'll be back in the states (thank god) Anyways, finding good quality paper for my Pilot 823 is very tough (as you can imagine!). I'll end up getting paper from a friend in Japan, over 7kg worth of notebooks ranging from Apica/Life Noble to Monakaki and Tomoe River. But for the mean time I had some notebooks made for me in B5 and A4 sizes with the Double A paper.

Just to mention pricing for a second:

I got 5 reams of Double A for $3.50.

Getting the notebooks made (book binding with soft covers and etc.) = $4 dollars

So for a total of $7.50, I got myself a variety of A4 and B5 notebooks with the Double A paper. Now I'm pretty sure there are a lot of variation in manufacturing of this particular brand. I believe copy paper such as HP Laserprint 32lb is a lot more consistent in this regard. If some people find no feathering with Double A paper, well let's just say with my Pilot 823 (14K Medium Nib, Iroshizuku Take-Sumi) I get a little bit of feather, it's not really that bad but considering where I bought this paper, I'm shocked. More so when I found this thread after searching and thinking in my head, "eh maybe it'll come up".

Anyways performance wise, as I mentioned earlier, there is slight feathering (enough that you can see it with your naked eye), minimum bleedthrough, and just a hint of showthrough so using both sides of the page (like how I do currently) is completely viable.

Anyways time for some pictures =D Sorry for the crappy iphone snaps!
