Visconti Issues

Is it me!

Or is there an issue with Visconti manufacturing in regards to consistency of products or quality assurance of products.

I brought a Visconti Homo Sapiens around end of March beginning of April from a reputable online retailer in the UK. Which had issues with flow would write then stop. I sent this pen back which the retailer replaced ASAP. Once I received this pen I flushed pen with normal water out of mineral water bottle, then loaded pen with ink. 2 days later went to use pen took off cap to find all the ink has leaked out. Inside cap all over clothes and floor.

The retailer replaced pen for another, along side which I order another pen. Both shipped from Italy, I inked both pens with Herbin Perle Noire. Pulled both boxes out yesterday to use as pens are stored in original boxes in bag as I haven't found a case yet. One of the pens ink completely leaked out again clothes messed.

The other pen the clip has come loose from cap which is allowing major movement of clip left to right. where as the pen that leaked no issues with clip.

Both Visconti cases 6 pen holder have been faulty. First one zip had already split from leather when it turned up in post. Second case dividers did not straight down in case but heavily slanted to right ad heading into case.

Am I right in starting to loose faith with Visconti as a pen manufacturer of standard?

Any views?

Thanks

Let's says that Visconti quality is very finicky and you aren't the one who has encountered a manufacturing flaw with a Visconti Homo Sapiens. I was and I am still very reluctant to buy one because I am always asking myself the question if I will get a finicky quality control. On the other hand, I never had a single mishap with my Omas and my Montegrappa pens.

Pens are like watches , once you start a collection, you can hardly go back. And pens like all fine luxury items do improve with time

Can't comment on Visconti since I have never found on I'd want to own BUT, mineral water is not a good idea when it comes to flushing.

Georges

Thank you for you're view, you're probably right in holding back.

I was planning on taking pens to pen show in my home town on the 1st. But don't think this will be happening.

Unless the retailer replaces both pens by FRIDAY off this week.

But more and more I look at the pens I am getting a feeling to return and ask for refund!

I have several Visconti pens, including a bronze homo sapiens, and find them to be nothing but perfectly enjoyable and well made. Of course every manufacturer will have some less than perfect pens make it out into the sales channel, but I don't think yours is a typical experience.

The reason I ask is I flushed my two Sailor Realo pens in same way. 1911 and professional gear.

Before inking, both stored in their boxes in same bag. Got these two in December and no problems yet (touch wood).

Personally don't think it makes a difference, as long as not warm water.

More standard issue I think.

can I ask why you say this. as you're view is different Jar from a couple off people I checked with in the UK.

Sure, mineral water contains, well, minerals. That can lead to mineral deposits.

That rule applies for normal tap water in the UK as some areas have a harder water content. By harder I mean the makeup off the water when treated and pumped out to houses. Some places have a softer water content.

Plus all four pens have been flushed with same water and by flushed barrel filled once then emptied. Then nibs left to sit on tissue to draw water out. Then inked.

Which is why looking for "distilled water" is what you should look for.

it actually says distilled spring water from France. if this applies.

And Jar in you're personal experience and anyone else out there who would like to input.

do you think one flush will lead to deposit's forming. personally I don't think it will.

Well distilled Spring water should remove all the minerals except hydrogen and oxygen.

Doubt one flush with any water would do too much damage.

Thanks for that Jar. I'll although check with friend who is a pharmacist if he can get distilled water for me!

Bringing things back on track!

Anyone with issue's with Visconti?

I won't go into another detailed rant about Visconti pens here, but if you search my previous posts you can find the detail.

Summary: My experience with over 10 Visconti pens is that nearly all required work to function properly. I haven't completely sworn them off, but I would be reluctant to buy another new Visconti again.

Regards, greg

Don't feel bad. I'm old; I'm meh about most things.

Hmm. I have never had any of the problems that you are speaking of with my viscontis, and I have 3 of them (although none of them are the homo sapiens model).

When you say the ink is leaking out, can you tell where the leak started? Top of the nib? Bottom of the feed? Is there a leak within the pen body? Is yours a piston filler or the cartridge one?

Current Wishlist:

Visconti, Visconti, and...more Visconti! (And some ST Duponts too). (Ok fine, getting on the Omas and Montblanc trains now too. Toot toot.) (And maybe on the Montegrappa one too, but only for the Miyas.)

I bought an Opera Elements with the palladium nib, and the nib was completely bent out of shape. Yes, bent out of shape! Fortunately, the retailer replaced it, and it's great now.
