Oh no! I've managed to resist the Music Set until now - how many inks can 1 person own? But, these are irresistible. Looks like I need to set up another cupboard!

I really don't want to find out, but so far I have over 150 :) I am sure there are plenty lurking around with a bigger hoard.

I am no longer very active on FPN but feel free to message me. Or send me a postal letter!

I really like a lot of these (I love Aster and Pansy in particular, and am keeping my fingers crossed that some of these -- particularly Pansy -- have some sheen to them). But I'm hoping that they *aren't* a set, because that way I won't be able to afford them.... :wallbash:

Which seems to me to be a poor marketing ploy on Diamine's part (I liked the looks of some of the Music series inks, but not all -- and the entire set was too expensive to buy *as* a set, especially when not all the inks were too my taste).

Oh well, if they're being released in October, they're obviously aiming for the Christmas season. If they *are* only available as a set, they might get some takers that way. Just (probably) not at this house (although I can drop hints out the wazoo, my husband is often pretty oblivious -- and he'll say something like "Just how many inks do you really need?" and that will be the end of it. :bawl:

Thanks, Ruth!

Okay, you guys, now go ahead and try and beat the **** out of me.... it goes like this... as much as I like, and consistently recommend, and also purchase a lot of D. inks, I'll still not buy that set, just like the music set due to purely philosophical reasons. Sure, the company will survive without me but even if I did have more than enough dough, I still wouldn't buy these sets, simply as a matter of protest.

Thanks for posting!

I love Burgundy Rose - which reminds me of Sailor Grenade, which recently caused havoc in my Nakaya! This could be a nice replacement.

Tulip is very inviting.

Gerbera - I agree with the previous poster. I'm not sure what the color is, but I'll say it looks peachy!

What's the difference between this set and other LE inks? A lot of lines have LE inks that are expensive (MB Gandhi, anyone?). I don't see a particular reason to protest. If you don't like the idea of LE inks, thankfully Diamine has LOTS of other, non-LE, non-set inks to choose from.

I definitely love these colours and will save up a few pennies from every pay-check until they come out so I can snag a set.

I definitely love your reviews and will be looking forward to reading them! (Hopefully, you'll do some?) :D

Just a brief announcement and short review of the forthcoming ten new colours in Diamine's Flower set. This new collection will surely be a popular addition to the growing Diamine range and I think the colours certainly will be a hit. Obviously, the names of the inks are subjective: no-one can categorically say that the 'Marigold' for example isn't the same colour as that flower that person has just picked for the table vase. Also, it must be remembered that how I see the scanned examples, isn't necessarily how others may view them on their particular screens. Well, that's just the way of it.

So, here they are. Ten inks; ten flowers; coming out in October, so I'm told.

As is Salamander!

I've tried to pair them up, from the purple/blue, to the red/orange. Carnation was tricky. Judge for yourselves in October.

The colours are: Aster; Cornflower; Iris; Pansy; Bougainvillea; Carnation; Burgundy Rose; Gerbera; Tulip and Marigold. I've no idea how the inks will be packaged but as it will be a 'set' I suppose that they will be boxed much like the popular Music offering from last year. No other details I'm afraid - the inks, with the note arrived this morning.

Let's just sit back and enjoy!

Hi,

Can you tell us just how you got lucky enough to get this set from Diamine?

You mus be a very good customer.

Thanks for sharing.

Certainly lucky as although Phil had told me there was going to be another set out, towards the end of the year, I knew nothing more about it until the box with the ten small bottles arrived on Saturday. Salamander was a little different.

Initially, I'd phoned Diamine and spoke to Phil about the reformulated Blue-Black. He said that he'd send me a sample of an ink to comment and a bottle labelled 'No 93' turned up in the post. I thought it was superb and was really pleased when he asked me to come up with a name for it - which I did. I was really chuffed that they chose it - Salamander. For whatever reason, he also let me have a look at the Music set samples too as some will remember.

I just think that Diamine are a great asset to the pen and ink world and it's great that they are from GB.

And, I do have inks made by other manufacturers too but the majority are Diamine.

And all paid for!

Come on: they already have 100 standard colours. They need to do something different; such are the Laws of Marketing :) I thought the Composers set was a pretty good idea from a marketing perspective. This set is also lovely, if perhaps -- and I am nitpicking here -- a little too obvious, especially in the naming, and -- still nitpicking -- in usual Diamine style it has too many reds. But still fundamentally a good idea to introduce some sort of exclusivity (or rather: scarcity). If I was advising them (and while I do advice companies on marketing and data for a living don't take this too serious) I would probably encourage more exclusivity, e.g. by committing to only producing the set for one year (but infinite 'refills' for registered owners).

Go, Diamine! Go!

I absolutely agree. Diamine already have what is probably the widest range of colours produced by anyone and they sell a high quality product at very reasonable prices. If there's a market for premium priced boxed sets then let them make their bit extra there and keep their general prices competitive.

With such a wide range I find it incredible that they manage to come up with yet more shades. Those in a special set must be so similar to others in the standard range that D could probably be accused of making rip-off sets. Again, that does not matter - the boxed set makes a nice gift and it is only the few such as Cybaea who would ever spot the repeats!

The big question is - what are they going to do for their 150th anniversary next year?

I have to wonder how well Diamine would differentiate these inks from their normal product line if they did offer them separately. I suspect not very well. Most of these are Yet Another Diamine Red (or Purple, or Blue...) even if they are technically better, prettier, etc. You can get flow, lubricity, sheen and shade from their (anything but) "basic" offerings. I reckon they'd just confuse their customers.

Plus I suspect that the kinds of people who would go for the exclusive inks will be a bit OCD anyway -- so selling the inks all in one go is a kindness :)

Besides, enthusiasts of all breeds are really bad at comparing a variable expense like a new toy with an ongoing fixed expense, like the weekly shopping. I'll bet that the sort of people who write with 100 quid pens are also the sort to regularly drop the cost of the Diamine music set on a case of vino from Majestic.

Have to say that 60 quid for 10 bottles doesn't look like terrible value* for a nice box with some non-standard bottles (that look quite chunky). That's 2 to 4 bottles of fancy Swiss / fancy Japanese / boutique American ink imported to the UK.

Such a lovely set, thank you for posting these. I've never purchased one of their "sets" before, however I may do so in October.

Kind of looks like a few have some sheen...

Iris looks like Bilberry. Burgundy Rose looks like Red Dragon.

It seems you can get these colors in the basic Diamine line. They don't look too different than what they already offer.

I suspect that some people will find them similar enough, and others will appreciate the subtle differences. I'm a huge ink lover and spend tons of time pouring over comparisons between various inks I own. I am thrilled with the idea of comparing these to existing Diamine inks I own, to see just how close they are.
