I've always been impressed with the shading of my Diamine Marine...

yes, ditto on Diamine Marine. Very cool shading ink.

PE Topaz

R&K Verdura a tad better than MB Irish Green

Herbine Cafe De Ills & Lie de The

Not quite the best but good shading inks.

Good shading worth a bottle MB Diamond...a LE ink. Get it this year or it's too late.

Herbin Bleu Pervenche

Pelikan 4001 Green

The Good Captain...oh, The Good Captain...is Diamine Majestic=Akkerman Shocking Blue in your opinion? I hope so as Akkerman is so dashed hard to get hold of (even though it comes in the astounding bottle).

Also, what about this Salamander ink I heard so much about and am eyeing so hard...is that a good shader? It is coming out soon, isn't it? Or is that just a rumor?

Diamine Syrah. Noodler's Liberty's Elysium is pretty good for a mid-blue. Waterman South Seas Blue isn't half bad either.

All of Pharmacist's colored iron gall inks shade wonderfully. Noodler's Purple Heart.

Noodler's Manhattan Blue, for a darker blue ink.

Noodler's El Lawrence and 54th Massachusetts (both of these on better paper like Rhodia)

Sailor Jentle Grenade (which *also*has sheen, especially on better paper).

J. Herbin Vert Empire.

Iroshihzuku Fuyo-Syogun.

There a probably a bunch of others out there -- these were just ones for which I could easily pull up the test sample writing, on a Rhodia No. 10 pad that lives in my purse for just such occasions....

Love to write with inks that shade well. Here are a few that work well with various nibs (all the same dip pen here)...
