My new favorite! This is a wonderful journal! My order was shipped promptly and arrived in excellent condition. My sister also ordered and had the same excellent experience.

Fantastic! I guess the proprietor is picking and choosing since all do not seem to be having the same experience. :yikes:

Sorry Lady, I will be very suspicious of any poster that just creates an account to provide a FANTASTIC (positive) account of his/her experience. It doesn't feel very truthful.

I would like to request no offense be taken by anyone with what I am about to write. I have to request because some people dislike directness or an alternative opinion which they perceive not sugar-coated. I have also dealt with this proprietor in the past. He may indeed be a nice guy, as we know that deals with an aspect of his character. However, as with myself and others who produce, or create something, instead of work for others, sometimes there are flaws in other areas of a person in terms of characteristics. I remember vividly not hearing from this gentleman, even after I sent emails several times. He sent out the journal requested, he just never responded. Therefore, with my experience and perhaps others, he lacks adequate customer service skills. He does not communicate, but he will send out merchandise in a reasonable time to my experience and I am sure others. Now, someone here has not heard from him since he sent I would imagine funds for journals in March. It is as we all know June. Either something is wrong, or he is no longer in business, or he no longer has the merchandise in question or something else which I don't have to get morbid. He has never taken this long to send out journals, even if he never replies back to a customer. So, vouching for his character is wonderful, but sometimes the nicest person lacks business skills or fails in some aspect. Creative, practical or simply people whose strength may not be in a particular area. No harm intended, just something I thought. I wanted to order another journal and his site as far as I know still has active links. Therefore something must be as they say in British literature, afoot. :)

Your comments are to the point and accurate. No offense is taken. He may, in fact, have poor customer service skills and this is simply a more "public exposure" of that situation. It would be nice to hear from more people and especially those with recent experience.

No offense taken here as well. Admittedly, my only business dealings with him have been in person, so I don't know how well he handles the online side of his business. It does sound like he may not be the most skilled at the customer service side of the business, which would be unfortunate. Hopefully his current issues aren't a result of anything bad happening to him and will be resolved soon.

Because of this thread, I ended up taking a book binding course in Toronto, and started making my own TR paper journals. At least now I can be assured I'll never run out. :)

I am unsure whether to read that as this thread was beneficial or detrimental. In any case, taking a bookbinding workshop is also on my bucket list. As a former librarian and lifelong lover of books, I think I would enjoy it, even if I did not make books beyond the workshop. Only because I have now amassed such a large amount of blank books, without lines and I would love to make one by hand myself to see whether I can do it. There are workshops or something in my state of North Carolina, Black Mountain something or other. Hope you simply took this thread for what it was meant to impart and that is to provide, inform and find out from others about an experience with someone who provides something, in this case, journals. There are other threads about the experiences of people who have gone to Nibmeisters, purchased pens from the classified here or Ebay, inks, etc. from businesses and their experiences. If I were someone, I would welcome a consensus as to whether others were satisfied, experienced any issues, such as the cost of shipping, timeliness of shipping, product living up to expectation. Unless we have some wealthy folks here who don't mind throwing money away and not receiving what is expected. If so, I am near a military base, retired and could still always use extra funds to purchase more bottles of red ink, blank journals cream unlined paper, or another fountain pen or two. Right now, a 16mm, piston fill Ryan Kruisac handmade exotic wood fountain pen is on the top of my list. :lticaptd:

My daughter was very happy with her journal from this vendor, and I found him on this thread and ordered two more from him, and got the confirmation mail. Later I read the negative; I hope that everything goes well.

I dont't know who I bought her first two TR journals from. They were soft covered, and the vendor had a choice of a cheap plastic bookcover to add, or an edpensive leather one. He also sold various hard plastic backing sheets, lined and unlined ai believe.

I know I found found him on FPN, but can't find him again. Does anyone know about the soft covered TR journal that was discussed here some years ago?

Cheers,

I just finished one of his journals recently. Sadly, fallen in love with them and contacted him. He said he does not have anymore and the vendor he uses has no idea when more will come in. I have sent all the way to Japan for something similar from elsewhere. The joke and commitment are the same, cost more for shipping then journal cost. Also, travel time will not be anytime soon. :lticaptd:

This is, again, why I'm glad I can make my own journals now. $5 to attend an open workshop and I get to use all the tools at the book bindery in my town. I'm halfway done this PFFP one, which i do love SO much, but the shipping to canada was outrageously expensive, as well is the book given our current crappy exchange rate.

My first journal was green bookcloth, and I used a vintage map of Ontario from the late 70s as the fly leaves. :) It's not perfect (it was my first complete one!), but it will certainly do my just fine.

I don't like softcover journals because they travel with me and I write all the time in transit. I need the hardcover to write on.

  • 2 weeks later...

I ordered two for my daughter in Manhattan And they shipped June 3. Did not arrive. Tracking shows they were delivered to Waterbury Conn. June 17 (where Jay is located).

Paypal confirms my daughter's correct address.

I emailed Jay tonight. Hope I can praise him highly for his response.

Good luck with that one. Somewhere in the midst of this thread people began to experience customer service other than favorable. For instance, routinely, he does not respond to emails. Secondly, believe someone wrote they have been waiting since March. Although his journals are nice, my experience is both of the aforementioned weaknesses of him being in a business. Another thing is that sometimes either threads begin or the rhythm of them morphs and changes in order to become cautionary tales for others to gather valuable information. Reading the experiences of others is sometimes how someone else gains an idea which enables them to not end up like those who have not had favorable experiences and spent their money. In any case, hope you succeed where perhaps others may have so far failed.

O.K. looks like what started this entire thread! August 13, 2013! This is June 23rd, 2017. A recap reply or a history lesson? We would rather know you have ordered a journal, journals from him recently and you have received them, received word from him. Do you know how to contact him, Has he returned your emails? Otherwise, soliciting others late to this thread benefits you how exactly? We know how it would benefit the seller, he gets more people to purchase journals and perhaps the same amount perpetually waiting for them or for him to respond! :yikes: :lticaptd:

Jay came through. I received email last night from him that Post Office returned to sender. A digit was missing from address. He will resend.

Strange behavior with Paypal. When I check out, it defaults to my address for shipping, but I can hit "change" and it would let me choose from all the addresses I have sent things to in the past, or enter a new recipient. That's how I selected her as recipient, and it was listed as "verified address."

I tried another order, just to see if the address Paypal had was wrong, and I had not noted it. Or, was it an error in transcription?

However, Paypal no longer shows all my recipients' addresses to chose from, but now only gives me option to "edit" the "send to" address.

computers=weird

I will post here when I get feedback from DD about her notebooks.

Cheers,

Here's a suggestion born of necessity: add the send-to address in the (optional) note to the seller that Paypal provides. I've struggled with how Paypal manages addresses...

To be fair, this thread started as an announcement of these products. Not everyone is going to read over a dozen pages of responses to see that it has later turned into a "delivery status" thread. (The ambiguous title of the thread doesn't help either.)

@bhavini If I were you I would not buy a dip-pen. They don't replicate the flow characteristics of fountain pens, and they will work well with some inks that will clog fountain pens. Instead of a dip-pen, I would buy a relatively-inexpensive pen that is easy to clean. E.g. a Parker Frontier and a converter for it. Its nib/feed-unit can be unscrewed from the pen, so cleaning it is very very easy.
    • finzi 18 Apr 21:44
@bhavini I ordered a Sailor Hocoro today, to use for testing. I’ll let you know what it’s like. You can get different nib sizes for it, so maybe more versatile than a glass dip pen.

@bhavini, I really like the Sailor Hocoro dip pen. It’s inexpensive, easy to clean, and if you get one with a nib that has a feed, you can get quite a few lines of writing before you have to dip again. I have a fude nib, which I use for swatching and line variation while writing.

What's a relatively cheap tool for a newbie to use to try out new inks, without inking up a pen? I've a bunch of ink samples on their way but I just want to play around with them before I decide on which ones I want to buy more of for writing. I've never used anything except a fountain pen to write with ink before.

It's gonna end where 1929 left us: a world war, shambles, and 'growth by rebuilding'. That's the conservative view of cycling history --and the big plan. Even if our generations perish.
    • lamarax 11 Apr 0:49
Of course trade wars are much, more important than the prices of consumer products. The true intention is to weaken the dollar, so that the Chinese start selling their US held debt. But the dollar being the defacto world reserve currency, it doesn't lose value that easily. So the idea is to target trade through artificially raising prices. Problem is, inflation will skyrocket. Good luck with that.

In Europe, the only (truly) American produced brand is Esterbrook AFAIK. Tariffs will make Esterbrook products compete on the same level as some high-end European brands (let's say Aurora), while clearly the product is manufactured to compete on a much lower price level.
    • lamarax 11 Apr 0:24
So let's say you want to buy a Montblanc or whatever. You pay the current tariff on top of the usual price, unless your local distributor is willing to absorb (some) of the difference
    • lamarax 11 Apr 0:20
Tariffs are paid by the importer, not the exporter.
    • TheQuillDeal 10 Apr 2:44

Fine-have you had a nibmeister look at it?

@FineFinerFinest: have you seen this thread? https://www.fountainpennetwor...nging-pelikan-nibs/#comments

No replies required to my complaints about the Pelikan. A friend came to the rescue with some very magnification equipment - with the images thrown to a latge high res screen. Technology is a wonderful thing. Thanks to Mercian for the reply. I had been using the same paper & ink for sometime when the "singing" started. I have a theory but no proof that nibs get damaged when capping the pen. 👍
    • Mercian 22 Oct 22:28
@FineFinerFinest: sometimes nib-'singing' can be lessened - or even cured - by changing the ink that one is putting through the pen, or the paper that one is using. N.b. *sometimes*. Good luck

I'm not expecting any replies to my question about the singing Pelikan nib. It seems, from reading the background, that I am not alone. It's a nice pen. It's such a pity Pelikan can't make decent nibs. I have occasionally met users who tell me how wonderful their Pelikan nib is. I've spent enough money to know that not everyone has this experience. I've worked on nibs occasionally over forty years with great success. This one has me beaten. I won't be buying any more Pelikan pens. 👎

I've had a Pelikan M805 for a couple of years now and cannot get the nib to write without singing. I've worked on dozens of nibs with great success. Ny suggestion about what's going wrong? 😑

Hello all - New here. My Art studies have spilled me into the ft pen world where I am happily submerged and floating! I'm looking to repair some cheap pens that are starving for ink yet filled, and eventually get new nibs; and development of repair skills (an even longer learning curve than my art studies - lol). Every hobby needs a hobby, eh ...

Perhaps it's like saying Beetlejuice 3 times to get that person to appear, though with @Sailor Kenshin you only have to say it twice?

@Seney724. The pen was recently disassembled and cleaned, but the nib and feed were not properly inserted into the holder. I'm in Maryland.
    • Diablo 26 Aug 21:32
@Seney724. The nib section needs to be adjusted properly.

Hello! Is there a thread anywhere 'round here where one can post self-composed poetry? If not, would it be alright if I made one? I searched on google, but to no avail...
    • OldFatDog 26 July 19:41
I have several Parker Roller Ball & Fiber Tip refills in the original packaging. Where and how do I sell them? The couple that I've opened the ink still flowed when put to paper. Also if a pen would take the foller ball refill then it should take the fiber tip as well? Anyway it's been awhile and I'm want to take my message collection beyond the few pieces that I have... Meaning I don't have a Parker these refills will fit in 🙄
    • RegDiggins 23 July 12:40
Recently was lucky enough to buy a pristine example of the CF crocodile ball with the gold plating. Then of course I faced the same problem we all have over the years ,of trying to find e refill. Fortunately I discovered one here in the U.K. I wonder if there are other sources which exist in other countries, by the way they were not cheap pen
