Antique Store Find: Sterling Grid Parker 75 Fp & Bp Set

First post on FPN in over a year for me. My life has taken several unexpeced turns, but I am now back! :)

Here's the story: I went antiquing in Québec city last friday, searching for vintage pens and antique bottles. After three unsuccessful attempts I finally find an antique store that has some fountain pens. There were three or four celluloid Watermans (two of them had damaged nibs, a very small streamline Duofold (Lady?) in need of a new sac, a Waterman #12, a Sheaffer Touchdown with stripped blind cap threads, an Esterbrook SJ and last but not least, a Parker set in a black faux-suede pen slip. I was intrigued by the set. I pulled the pen out, only to see the shimmer of the sterling silver grid pattern. Both the pen and the ballpoint were in excellent condition with little tarnish.

The price asked was 125$, but after a few minutes of haggling I left the store with the set and my wallet 90$ lighter. :happycloud9:

Back home, I filled it with water, and it wrote perfectly with the rehydrated ink still in the original converter.

Being new to collecting fountain pens, I can't say anything about the price 'cause I'm still learning. However, what I see is a beautiful set of pens and my guess is that you did really well. What size is the nib on the fountain pen?

Great find, ticoun

A lot of times each one of those pens will sell for close to $90, and you got both for that price. Pretty great!

Very nice, an earlier model as well with the flat tassies and graduations on the ring near the nib. Great photos too. Now, are you going to leave the nice tarnished look or give them a polish?

It's not written on the nib, but it is a fine. Very smooth with just a touch of feedback. :)

I like it the way it looks right now. Might give a very light polish to the area under the clip, which has tarnished and lost all of its shine.

That's what I was told when I posted it on /r/fountainpens right after picking it up. I'm pretty happy with the deal I got. :)

Look on the feed, you should see one or two letter(s) on it. That will tell you the size of the nib.

Excellent pens at excellent price. The nib seems to be XF or 63.

The number under the feed is 65, and it writes about the same as my Sheaffer Imperial II deluxe F.

It's always a pleasure for me to use a P75, especially a Sterling Cisele. To write and play with and to look at it. You have got an absolutely nice and substantial pen for a very good price there, congrats!

Lovely pen at a great price, I believe the prices that the Parker 75 cisele was being sold for over the past few months was anywhere between 130 - almost 200$, so I think you got a good deal on it. Well done :) Enjoy your pen!

Fountain pens are like weapons. They just make your pocket bleed so much.
