All Diamine Inks Compared

Wow. I'm impressed. Thanks! This must've taken a loooooong time. :yikes:

Diamine is one of my favourite ink brands that I've tried. Did you buy samples of every colour they had to do this, or did you already happen to have every colour?

Everybody buys ink bottle by the gross, right?

May I ask, are you just collecting, or do you intend to use this ink. I write between three to four letters a week an average of four pages each with Diamine ink, of which I have four colors. I bought these two months ago, and it seems these are going to last until the end of this year, and probably into the next!

I can see you will be leaving these to posterity, you will never use them up in your lifetime my friend!

They came as a boon, and a blessing to men,

Sincerely yours,

Pickwick

Bit of both :) Before I developed a tennis elbow from too much writing (!) I would use 0.5 - 1.0 ml of ink daily [1] so that particular batch should see me through for eight to fifteen years. Good to be prepared for the coming zombie apocalypse ....

While my arm is healing and I practice my posture and grip, I write less but much more with dip pens so my daily ink usage is probably about the same.

Either way, and given that my hoard collection has grown somewhat since, I should be set until retirement. Not that that will stop me buying more inks :D

[1] Which would also be a good going rate for a busy student or similar who writes lots of notes, in case you are looking for a benchmark. (Writing notes with fountain pens are assumed on this forum.) Your case may be closer to 1 ml per week - say a fill and a bit of a cartridge converter - depending on the nib width you use. So four bottles would be good for 120 or 320 weeks depending if they are the 30 ml or 80 ml bottles. And you accuse me of hoarding! :)

My dear friend,

I never accused you of hoarding! I can see the fascination for collecting. I was just amazed at your collection of inks. I sincerely hope you recover soon, and enjoy the experience of writing once more. Do you ever have a dilemma in choosing which color ink to write with?

Bookmarked ... thank you for the hard work.

It would seem that over half of my inks are Diamine(*) (for my vintage and the more expensive pens), followed by Noodler's and some random one-offs.

This will be an excellent reference.

(*) It's funny, because it started for a purely practical reason : the square footprint bottles stack away nicely in an IKEA drawer, out of light and harms way, with just enough clearance to close. Naturally, they have a sticker on top with a sample and grouped by color and hue. :D

Every time I fill a pen - but that is part of the fun :)

Woooow! This is an amazing piece of research, very very helpful, thank you! As for buying by the gross - the most I have done was 8 inks at once, but those were large bottles - 8 Iroshizukus once and 8 Levengers just last week :).

The images on their website don't appear to have color profile metadata. Even if my monitor is calibrated to a known profile, how can I link that to the unknown (or rather, unreported) profile their camera/scanner was calibrated to?

I found this while looking for comparisons of Diamine blue inks. It has been very helpful, and now I know exactly what inks I am going to sample. Thank you so much for this comparison.

As a new member, I'm browsing the various discussion threads with interest. This one is particularly useful, and visually intriguing. I use Diamine's Teal, but this was a real treasure trove.

David Hume, the Scottish philospher, wrote about the 'missing shade of blue', that were a person presented with a range of blues, with a gap of the one blue never before encountered, would that person know that that shade of blue were missing.

I now know from your charts that I'm missing a whole lot of shades!! My budget for ink is shot!

...be like the ocean...

I'd like to add my humble voice to the chorus of Thank yous

This thread should be pinned or locked or whatever

A true resource

At least until Diamine invents twenty more colors

But then only an addendum would bring it up-to-date

Thank you again

WOW. This is absolutely amazing. Thank you so much for the effort and time taken to do this! It really helped me to decide what colour I'd like to buy from Diamine.

This might be a little random but I just wanted to ask how you flushed the ink between each colour, and how long did you take to do each flushing?

A bit late to the party, but thank you so much for this. It's helped immensely in choosing new colors to buy (and current colors to use!)

A little bit late as well but thanks a lot for your work. I re-discovered my fountain pen and of course need some ink... I went for Midnight. Haven't received it yet but I think it is the right choice for my needs. And if not I'll let you guys know :-)

Their PH goes from 6 to 8 ...so they are pretty pens friendly! Thank you!!!
