I have been keeping an eye on this particular pen for a year or so, and finally went ahead... I am still a bit terrified and elated at the same time.

Ooh, am I jealous of you! That is one stunner of a pen!

Congratulations! That is a stunning pen, and way out of my league :) .

I just inherited my wife's M400 old style Tortoise Brown. She bought it two months ago, but never liked the M nib and the fact that "it doesn't have much bling", since there are rumors of a new M400 brown tortoise coming next year she decided to give this one to me. So, not new to the house but new for me, and I'm not complaining ;) .

Hah! If she decides she doesn't like the "new style" ones either, I would be more than happy to be first in line.... :ninja:

My first bird was a 90s era M400 Brown Tortoise with an F nib and I love it (although it's really so wet that it writes like at least an M and maybe even a B).

"It's very nice, but frankly, when I signed that list for a P-51, what I had in mind was a fountain pen."

I think we will compete to be the first in line :D. But the odds of that happening are slim, she is a big fan of the modern Pelikans with EF nibs.

And you are right about this bird being wet, it writes much broader than any nib I have so far (but I got a IB in the mail). This M400 is so wet that my M1000 seems dry by comparison - I have to say that I like it :).

My M800 Burnt Orange with an Italic broad nib arrived this afternoon and it's gorgeous.

I inked it with Caran d'Ache electric orange and love the combo.

Last bird of the season for me. Next one only if/when the rumored SE M400 tortoise brown or the M800 forest green come out (thanks to Sargetalon for sharing the news).

Wait! I just saw a brand new M800 red striped...

I too joined the M800 Burnt Orange crew just today. Found mine at Vanness Pen Shop after our pen club meeting tonight! Beautiful!

There is an almost parallel thread entitled something like "Look What Arrived Today" and I have posted there as well (that thread ought to be combined with this one) -- yesterday my new 101 Red Tortoise arrived from the ever-good Mr. Propas: he tested the nib before shipping and I must say it is perhaps the smoothest (1.4ct) fresh nib I have ever had. There is some suppleness in the nib, so there <is> line variation available, but I wouldn't call it flexible (Bo Bo might call it a nail: I call it a semi-nail! It is gorgeous and writes beautifully)

I must stop this now! Allowing such prolific breeding, that is -- how <do> you fit your pens with condoms? :D

More effective to sit them in front of a TV.

Congrats on the red tortoise. Nifty pen.

Congrats on the red tortoise. Nifty pen.

If you guys find an effective way to make them stop reproducing, let me know. I tried everything... To no effect.

Christopher, congratulations on the 101 red tortoise. It is one of the most beautiful birds out there.

And my DUO Highlighter which has been aboard for a couple of weeks. I just find it sexy and love looking at it.

Thank you Lam1; but it is all the fault of Sargetalon, although he doesn't know it! He wrote that glowing review of the pen, some time back, in his blog The Pelikan's Roost (Have I got it right?) -- No, no, no! PERCH! Perch! Apologies, Joshua! :D

I got the Red Tortoise in last week to go with my brown model, and like so well I decided to look for one of the lizard models, although I was not impressed with it from pictures all that much, to complete a set of the modern 101n models. I got luck and won an auction on Regina's site yesterday for 311 Euros( total with shipping) which works out to about $335.

Regards

Jeff

Don't I know that? Sargetalon is also the one to blame ;) for many of my (and my wife's) birds. In particular, the whole lot of M2xx that I have started because of that thread in which he shows his wonderful collection as well as the reviews that he has on the M2xx line on his site. I must say that he is on to something, because the M2xx are fantastic pens indeed!

But he is not the only one to blame: I have bought a vintage 140 with a fantastic KEF nib, which I love to bits, and now I find myself wanting all the 140 colors and also the 400NNs... An expensive proposition. Do you know whose fault is that? Your's (and Bo Bo's) :D. A while back when I was starting this Pelikan madness, I mean hobby, I had trouble with some nibs and you recommended that I went vintage (specifically you mentioned the 400NN. I didn't get that one yet, but intend to do it ASAP). I'm going broke because of you guys :).

Congratulations! Looks like you got a good deal. But you guys are killing me :) with these 101 red tortoise, I love red pens and I love tortoise pens... I'm trying my best to resist this one, but it's not easy with all the good things people keep saying about it. Enjoy you new pen. Edited by Lam1

This came in today... Brand new M800 Green Stripes, with B Nib... Quick photo next to my 1990 M800....

You've got me extremely jealous! I'm so close to pulling the trigger and gettin an M800 just like yours. The M805 Stresemann is also calling my name. Decisions!

Me? Me? No, never: I'm just a quiet little chap who knows what he <likes> (vintage Pelikans and their latter-day incarnations) and you're trying to blame <me>, Lam1? Typical of those who failed to get their inoculations in time! Actually, when the time does come, you <are> going to enjoy your 400NN: they are wonderful and, if you find the right nib, you may find that you are forgetting to use your other pens! (You could try Mr. Propas -- he always has NNs for sale and you know he will prepare the pen properly -- go to The PENguin site; but be warned: there will be lots else to tempt you!

Thanks, too, to uemuraw for the good wishes! As for you, Jeff King (I assume? jkingrph): felicitations on your newest -- the lizard! I am wildly jealous and green with envy. ;^)

Congratulations on the Lizard acquisition.

I saw both the brown tortoise and lizard models in person at the London pen show this year and - to my great surprise - preferred the lizard. The brown tortoise had been on my list for a while, but in the end I didn't get it...
