M805 Stresemann. Not exactly a new pen, but as it has recently been reborn, I think it counts.

I've had it for over six months, but hardly used it. I was surprisingly underwhelmed by the aesthetics (very disappointing), and the EF nib it came with was just awful (tines visibly misaligned on first uncapping) and had to be replaced. The replacement EF nib is OK, but I then acquired a 2B nib to put on the pen, only to be unimpressed by the performance: flow wasn't great and it was, well, boring.

Then John Sorowka did an excellent job of turning the 2B nib into a lovely stub at the London pen show in early October. That has changed the experience of this pen entirely, and it is now a pleasure to use (even if I still find myself much less in love with the aesthetics than I had expected). It's a pity I had to spend extra money on top of an expensive pen to get a lovely writing experience, but on the positive side, I really enjoyed the interaction with Mr Sorowka and know just whom to approach for any future nib-work.

I like the interchangable nibs. I have three Pelikans with four nibs. Of the original nibs, two are now modified by Pendleton Brown. And I have a stub nib unit from John Mottishaw that's just about found a permanent home on the 140. The one remaining round point original nib finds itself rotating through the M150 and M400 when I'm in a round point mood, which usually coincides with a change in color of the ink.

I'm probably shocking some collectors that would emphasize keeping original parts together. But the nib-swapping has really been fun and my three Pelikans have seemed like many, many more as I tried different nib/pen combinations. It really changes the whole experience. By the way, I got the Pelikans from Christof (Hello, Christof - still having fun with the pens you introduced me to).

So I think maybe when you stumble across the right pen/ink/paper combination for your Streseman, the aesthetics will suddenly jump out at you, and you'll say "that's what I imagined when I first got the pen."

Soot, just to clarify are we looking at a 3B nib on a tortoise Pelikan 500? :)

Soot -

I bought the same pen - a 450 ( I'd posted a couple of images a few posts earlier). Lucky to find it in "new" condition.

But that nib of yours............. Outstanding!!!

PELIKAN - Too many birds in the flock to count. My pen chest has proven to be a most fertile breeding ground.
