Here's my newest bird. He has a supportive blue friend. They both flew home with me today from the DC show.

I saw a few of those red tortoises at DCSS. Man, they're pretty. But completely unaffordable.... :crybaby: As in 4 or 5 car payments' worth of unaffordable....

I was hoping to find one of the small blue stands (the big ones like yours don't do much for me, although the blue is better than the white ones I've mostly seen; plus I don't have a lot of room for a big one on the shelf of the little Bombay & Co. writing desk I got on Craig's List last fall). I scored a gold one last year, with the original box -- but the only small blue one I saw wasn't for sale (and the ones I've seen on the Bay of Evil are of the "What PLANET are you from?" prices...).

Wondering if I should go on the Market Place and try to do a trade with someone.... I mean, it's in good shape, I didn't mash the packaging up or anything -- I just would prefer blue to the metallic gold (the silver ones are kinda nice, too, but I gather are even harder to find -- but still not as nice looking as the blue ones).

Nice catch, from the photo, the colours of the red tortoise really stands out.

Nice first bird :D

Unfortunately, no one is immune to Pelikan Fever, so expect your next Pelikan within the year. :P

that was my fear.... :)

It could be worse -- *I* started out with an older model M400 Brown Tortoise on Ebay. My husband almost had a coronary when he saw what I paid for it. I pointed out that *new* M400s cost a whole lot more and that color binde was no longer available. (He didn't really buy that....) Especially after I got a cute little M100 from the 1980s with a 1 mm nib. Then, last winter was the mid-1950s 400 with the OB nib (priced pretty much like the Brown Tortoise) followed a month or so later by the Café Crème (although I saved some cash by ordering it through Rolf Thiel's Ebay store). The other M200 was a gift from a friend who found it on Freecycle [blink] -- uninked and with the box in nigh-on pristine condition (apparently some sort of corporate gift because it has the Bayer aspirin logo on it).

JMcM: compliments on that <gorgeous> new addition to your flock! I love it (the pen -- the blue pelican isn't half-bad, either) and am very envious. Enjoy writing with it!

Just bought my first Pelikan (a blue-black M600 with EF nib) from Massdrop and am currently waiting for alllll of the shipping to happen.

Certainly is a waiting game, but I'm super stoked to finally have a Pelikan!

Pelikans are wonderfully easy to fill, hold a good amount of ink, and are the most reliable pens I have ever owned. I am a dévoté.

One small warning, however: The modern ones have a weakness (design flaw?) in the seam between the nib section and the ink reservoir. A couple of new pens I have owned have suddenly sprung leaks at that seam, and I was unexpectedly wearing the ink. Just an FYI.

I'm in a good mood. :)

I've lusted after an M1000 for some time but the price - even second-hand - has been well beyond my present reach. I'd spotted one on eBay and watched it for a while. As it came to the last 20 minutes, it was only at £100. It was just described as having a pf nib. Very little other description. I put in a bid of £130 expecting to be significantly outbid and won it for £104 (about $163). I couldn't believe it. In fact, I was worried that I'd bought one of the smaller Souverans and asked the seller about it. He didn't really know but had supplied dimensions to another enquirer who he said 'Seemed happy with them).

It arrived today. M1000 it definitely is. Broad nib. Lovely. The cap has a couple of small nicks and it clearly hasn't been used for a while, but I've given it a good clean and I'm very pleased. I haven't written with it yet but the nib looks perfect.

As I say - I'm in a good mood. :)

Congratulations!

I saw that auction and intended to bid, but something urgent came up and I never did. I remember thinking that someone got a really good deal.

Green striated M800 with a fine nib from a fellow FPN-er. Perfect writer.

And I've sent off the M1000 to get pendletonized ... he did a wonderful job on my 805.

I love broad nibs, but the broad on the M1000 is insane.....Very wet and a huge line. I'm not sure how much I'm going to be able to use it..... I may be looking to see if anyone is interested in a nib swap at some point! ;)
