My first Pelikan arrived. It is the m800 green-black with the extra-fine nib. Glad to join the rows of bird owners!

Very nice! You'll surely love the M800. :)

It's official. I have my first bird! A pretty bird, at that. Here's a picture of my m400:

In my view it´s a more elegant combination than with red tops. The dark part of the tortoise is darker ( almost black) than usual and for me it is a fantastic look overall.

Hello:

It has arrive yesterday. It is a 400 or 600, I don't know, Old Style.

Regards.

It is a M600 old style, with, nearly, the same size as a M400.

The production period was between 1958 and 1997. Afterwards Pelikan changed the size, the shape and the nib; from 18k to 14k.

It´s 1985, not 1958. A typo for sure :)

It surely is a pre-'97 600 as stated above. The only thing that I'll add is that these were introduced in 1988, not 1985. The 18C two-tone nib if original should date this one 1990-1997.

PELIKAN - Too many birds in the flock to count. My pen chest has proven to be a most fertile breeding ground.

Hello:

Thank you for your datation and identification. The size is like a M400, the only different to M400 is the nib, I think.

Regards.

Hello:

Yes, the nib is the original with this pen when I purchased it. It was the reason for prurchase, I like it. Thanks for date accurately.

My M600 in Red Stripe arrived, last week I think. I've had family in town and the days sort of blend together.

I ordered it with a Fine nib, because all they had left was fine or medium, and I already had two mediums. I was worried that I would not like the fine, but I was very wrong. It's wider than my Japanese M's and nearly as wide as my Platinum B. It's extremely smooth and has great flow, but not too wet. It also has nice character, which isn't always found in today's stock nibs.

I'm not an expert by any means, and haven't had the number of pens thru my hands some of you have, but I've noticed that some of the modern nibs are "blobs" I think Bo Bo calls them, while others have some very decent character. I received my M805 and my brown tortoise M800 at the same time, both with M nibs.. My tortoise has a wonderful nib, draws a crisp line and has nice character while the M805 is very unremarkable, and the line is not crisp at all. So, I think it's just hit or miss with modern nibs. 2 out of my 3 Pelikans have very nice nibs.

I have no intention of messing with my M600 or my M805, but my M800 will be off for a stub or a CI.

I enjoy MB 146 pens, Sailor, Pilot and Platinum pens as well. I have a strong attraction to dark red and muted green ink, colors I dislike for everything but FP ink. I also enjoy practicing my handwriting and attempting to improve it. I love the feel of quality paper under a gold nib.

???

Are you sure about that production period? I don't think so.

c.

I have to apologize :headsmack: I changed the order of the numbers, I wrote 58 instead of 85

These two were meant to be the most recent additions to my flock and I'm extremely happy with the 101N. Sadly, I can't say the same about the 400 which doesn't work. The piston doesn't draw any water (ink) and it leaks what little it has managed to pull from the knob. The kick in the nuts is that this was bought from penboard.de and I really expected stellar service because apparently everybody loves them. The pen is marked as fully working and having a very smooth nib there but I wonder how they have tested to see if the pen is fully working or the nib is smooth without being able to draw any ink into it.

My first vintage pen and it is a disaster. So sad that my hands are shaking. Tried contacting the seller, got back an automated reply saying that he won't be in until 16th of March. Their site doesn't future any information on how to return an item. I'm pretty lost now. Looks to me like I have thrown about $300 down the drain.
