I think you got a good price.

c.

Yes, the price was a surprise and what made me jump for it. I was not able to look at the catalogue when it was first available, so when I finally did get to it and saw that pen, I started fumbling around and like a kind in candy store with a time limit. But I finally got my "I'll take it" note in and well, it turned out to be a very nice pen for me.

The nib is marked EF, however the tipping looks slightly oblique, I assume that is from years of use. Does that seem realistic? Also, He dates the pen from 1954, is it possible to nail down the age of a pen such as this so precisely? If so, how is that known?

It is temporarily sunny here, I need to go for a short bike ride, before the Seahawks game comes on. a bientot.

This 100N showed up yesterday, all the way from Poland...

This looks like a great pen - have you tried it out yet?

I notice that the nib has a star on it. Does this mean something? What would the age of the pen be?

It is inked up this week actually, with some Diamine Emerald. A great writer, though it needed some nib work as the tipping was quite roughened up for some reason. But now it's smooth and flow is just about perfect. A little flex when I want it, but not too much so that my handwriting can stay small when needed.

I have several Pelikan nibs of the late 40s/early 50s with this star on it. I have no idea what it is for or representing. This pen came with a black rubber piston seal that I carefully replaced with one of David Nishimura's modern reproductions, as the original one wasn't getting the job done unless it had a substantial coat of silicone grease. I think is is dated to around the late 40's, though I am not positive. I believe the black rubber seal helps to pin down the age somewhat. I have another 100N that has a clear/white rubber/synthetic seal much like those seen on the 400s, that I would say is from the early 50s.

Thanks for the info, and it is great that it is a good writer. I have been creating a nest of Pelikans this year, but I haven't found a 100N yet. I like the trim on cap on yours, and I am on the look out for a similar one.

I must send a photo of my pens this week

I apologize in advance for the photos... No light tent and only a decent older point-and-shoot, shot outside this morning.

A couple new additions arrived yesterday... First, my new M101N Red Tortoiseshell was delivered from Regina Martini. It sure adds some color to the collection! I still prefer the Brown Tortoiseshell version of the three M101N's, but I am very pleased with all of them. The 100N-type family:

And then I spent a good chunk of time yesterday working on a full tear-down of a weathered black-stripe 400NN that I received from Belgium. The piston seal and a bit of plastic had broken off the end of the piston rod, and I had to salvage a spare piston rod & seal that I had in a green-striped 400NN (missing a cap) that I picked up off eBay a while back for a good price for just the nib alone. I was hoping the black 400NN only needed a new seal, but it was disappointing to find the rod damage once I knocked out the piston (I swear I didn't do the damage!). Anyway, the cap has a small crack to keep it from ever being a perfect example, but it is nice to fill a hole in the collection for a decent price. This black one has proven to be tough to find for a reasonable fee. The whole family of my 400NNs to date:

Very nice flocks English John and Rising Sun!

PELIKAN - Too many birds in the flock to count. My pen chest has proven to be a most fertile breeding ground.

Thank you! I've got another important addition to the flock in the mail as well... I'm hoping it is here by the new year.

Just got my first Pelikan to, er, mark my 20th birthday! Let's be real though, I would've found another justification either way.

New M400, green, F nib. Planned on starting vintage, but I found one for $180 from Japan.

I've really been enjoying it! I inked it up with Sailor Tokiwa-Matsu to start, and it's been delightful. No problems with the nib out of the box, and in fact it's exceeded my expectations in every way!

Hoping to find myself an old 140 next! Fingers crossed this doesn't become a dangerous addiction...

My newest addition is also my FIRST Pelikan.

I thought I was buying an M400 (though the blurry pictures made it look like an M405) ... well it gets here and turns out its an M805 ... Very nice plus for me!
