Very nice - and the line variation is purely from flex or is the BB nib a bit "stubby" :)

The the writing is with a light pressure and the figure 8s are with pressure. You are right though that it is stub-like. This is definitely the softest most "flexy" post 1960s nib I have used.

What makes it an old style nib? I assume it was produced somewhere around 1988 with the rest of the pen. For me 1970s onward are modern nibs...which may not be consistent with other peoples view of "modern".

Arrived today!

The pen only has Günther Wagner Pelikan imprint at the end of the barrel. No '500' or anything. No nib size either. It has an interesting nib though.

The pencil even has a few leads in it!

I have at least two Pelikan nibs which have the same grinding at the tip. One is a Pelikan 100N and the other an early 140 as far as I remember. I am quite sure that this is not an accident.

Yes, its definitely not damaged. The underside of the nib is intact.

So I guess its considered to be a rare® nib than? I wonder what could be that purpose of this grinding.

Yes, I would say a rather uncommon nib at least. But I have no idea to be honest. Maybe the grinding should provide a wider range of writing angle...?

 

I have seen Waterman's nibs with similar grinding:

I think I misunderstood what was meant by "old style". Of course it's an old style and my 18c single tone nib is possibly older than the ones on that site (as far as I know It was only used on the first year of the m600, 1988) but it's still a modern nib.

 

I don't hear anyone raving about their late 1980s nibs like they do about nibs from the 60s and earlier. Anyways, I am new to the world of Pelikan so maybe they are the exception.

I once had an M250 in Burgundy, pre 1997 variant. The nib was more flexible than the most of the 50's and 60's nibs I ever had. But this is rather uncommon I think. No Pictures, sorry.

Mine looks like an EF.

I just love the 550 though. Such a smooth pencil! (it has 10 leads in it!)

Most of them have different nibs. I have no favourite, I fill that pen wich I want to write with...

101n, M625 and Wallstreet are not in use, they are just to collect ;-)

They were considerably less expensive at the intro in 1956. Particularly when 1$ = 4DM.
