'The Yo-Yo maneuver is very difficult to explain. It was first perfected by the well-known Chinese fighter pilot Yo-Yo Noritake. He also found it difficult to explain, being quite devoid of English.

So we left it at that. He showed us the maneuver after a sort. B*****d stole my kill.'

A friend gifted me with what I think is a pre-1997 M200 in black and green marble. It appears to be in pristine condition (as if it had never been inked, even for testing) and in the original box. Sorry no photos at the moment -- I have to figure out what's wrong with the camera and then get it fixed. I may try tomorrow with the smart phone....

The interesting thing is that there is a Bayer logo on the cap (found an image on line of another user with a similar pen, but the Bayer logo was different. I have queries into both Peilkan and Bayer, asking for any information about the pen and similar ones (I'm guessing that this is something that was used for personal gifts at Christmas, or for a retirement.

The best part is that the friend didn't pay a *dime* for the pen -- she got it when the original sellers decided not to wait for an appraisal and somehow this pan ended up in a listing on *Free-Cycle).

Just taken delivery of my first Pelikan, an M805 in blue, with an F nib.

I've written a couple of pages of drivel with it, and am impressed (with the pen, not the drivel!).

Great story, gives me hope. Can you introduce me to your friend?

Great story, gives me hope. Can you introduce me to your friend?

Not sure you'd actually want to meet her... she's a bonafide hoarder.... Never saw a tchotchke or a kid's toy that that she didn't absolutely *had* to have, even when she doesn't have a full-time job, and she'll literally pick up a piece of plastic garbage off the ground because "it might have some use" (I know that her claim will be that she'll take it to recycling, but...).

But she knows I like pens (and has gone antiquing with me a couple of times, including when I got my first Esterbrook (a black SJ with a 1555 nib) that I hadn't seen at first -- it caught the corner of my eye when I had pretty much given up hope of finding anything in the place, and I was circling around the rooms trying to find her. I'd left her by the cashier's, which was in the back of the store, buying a postcard that had originally been mailed on her mom's birth date; or the one that happened to show the house her grandmother used to live in(!) -- forget which now.

Actually though, she has been sort of a lucky charm for me for pens -- she was on the phone while I was watching the Ebay auction where I got my first Parker 51 and I was watching the final countdown; and she was at the same function I was at when the auction ended on the Plum Demi.

Furthering the story about this new-to-me Pelikan (which I have narrowed down as a pre-1997 M200, but that's about it), was that when my friend gave it to me, she said "Here's medication for you for your order meetings!" (SCA Order of the Pelican, and of course the Bayer logo was partly a joke on her part about needing aspirin at the meetings).

I have now heard back from someone from Pelikan, but she mostly sent useless info about BPs, other than to say that she was unaware of non-200s with the marbled body, and that the pen would have been some sort of corporate gift. Also, that the Pelikan logo changes about every 7 years (brushed or shiny finish, # of birdies, etc). I will attempt to take photos of it tomorrow to send to the woman, and also to post here.

Still waiting to hear back from Bayer....

I've ordered my first Pelikan today a Black M200 with a fine nib.

Congratulations! The Pelikan M200 steel nib is very nice and springy. Definitely not a nail!

And... remember to post some pics.

Just arrived: A perfect 100 N with wet, flexible nib.
Nice condition, a real pleasure to write with.
I love it. And it cost me 53.33 Euros.
The real deal.

M200 Cognac Special Edition with Italic nib.

My sinful indulgence to celebrate a birthday with a zero in it. Does rather soften the horror, it's true...

Cheers, Al

Lovely pen, lovely ink, beautiful writing. What kind of paper is that, and what is the size of the grid?

I just recently aquired a M800 tortoise shell brown with Fine nib. It is the same as the one in my avatar picture.

Love it...the M800 is by far my favorite and most used pen.

Er... let me think. Fairly confident it's Rhodia No.18 A4 grid, so 5mm squares. Must confess I've currently swapped in a rather more mundane medium nib for everyday use; rather more mundane scrawl as a result!

Trying not to add the flock at the moment, but it's so hard.

Cheers, Al
