New addition: a gorgeous postwar IBIS in outstanding condition and with a factory B nib that makes my knees wobbly... Piston assembly properly reset, nib aligned to perfection, and filled with Waterman Blue-Black. Oh, Baby!

I love it when you connect with a great looking pen which 'fits' well in the collection, and also just happens to be a superb writer. This one appears to hit all the marks. Congrats.

Hi,

The other day I was at home and accidentally overheard a conversation coming out of my pen box:

  • Have you heard? last night another Pelikan came in… some sort of pencil, they told me. They are growing numbers man, the drawers below us are getting full of the striped ones.
  • Ah, don’t worry, none of those old pijama pens will come up here.
  • I don’t know man…
  • Look, this is the modern tray, I’ve never seen a Pelikan here.
  • That’s what is bugging me…
  • Relax, we’re modern, we’re big, and we sit in the top drawer, we rule!
  • … who do you think rules more, your triangular cross section or my meisterstuck capband?
  • What, you’re starting that again?!

I lost contact as this stage, I may have made some noise that alerted them, but one thing was getting veeery clear in my mind…

And so my latest came in, a M800 in classic green stripes, check it out!

As someone once said, “I know the voices in my head are not real, but they sure do have great ideas”!

IMPORTANT NOTICE

This story is fictional and serves only to justify the acquisition of a beautiful M800 in green, as if a justification was needed. The contents are of the author’s sole responsibility and do not express the views or opinions of the characters pictured; in fact, I just saw the MB149 discussing nib widths with one of the 400s in front of a cup of tea.

Pedro,

Great story! Your pens=mind reveal us a fantastic imagination! Modern or vintage pens, the "FORCE" is strong with your pijama's pens. Maybe some vintage "white stars" pens can help to balance the equilibrium in those drawers ;)..... I feel the Pijamas will not take that gladly and will fight back! May the "force" to resist temptation be with you.

Best regards
Vasco

Added an M800 to my flock today. Purchased it for a steal at $225 shipped. It was shipped with some blue ink still in the pen some of which had dried inside the pen from apparent lack of use. Given how well Pelikans stay wet and ready to use for long periods of time, my guess is this pen hadn't been used in years. I had to let the pen soak multiple times to get all the dried ink out and had to apply some fresh silicon grease to the piston but now it works good as new and my red m600 now has company.

My most recent addition is 1990s trim M150 black burgundy. It was supposed to be never used but the tines needed some allignment. I love it, I like the size too. I don't get all this large pen trend. My theory is that people don't use their pens much and if you use it just for signing or as a status symbol large pens make sense. Otherwise if you write without posting your pen is too big.

Nib on this pen is steel, springy and soft. My second favourite Pelikan nib.

Inked: Sailor King Pro Gear, Sailor Nagasawa Proske, Sailor 1911 Standard, Parker Sonnet Chiselled Carbon, Parker 51, Pilot Custom Heritage 92, Platinum Preppy

The M1000, M800 are too big for me, at least for daily writers, so i primary use the M400. I have always wanted to try the M600 bud didn't want it bad enough to pay scale. Well a few weeks ago I bid and won a Blue M400, at a really good price.

Lo and behold, when it came in , it turned out to be a M600, medium nib, in good working condition.

I have been using it for a few days, and must say, nice size!

Not too big! not to small!, Now i know how Goldilocks felt...... Ahhhhhh, just right!

Its a little darker blue than in this picture.

Wow Tacitus!,

So that's how the big boys roll !

How long did it take you to put that collection together, (including the tray)!

Well, my m400 white tortoise arrived and I was in for a heck of a surprise. I had already lucked out buying the pen from eBay for only $125 shipped. But then I started testing the pen when it arrived and thought the nib felt and wrote a lot different then my other Pelikan nibs. Low and behold, it's not a broad nib at all. It's a stub! I had intended on sending it to a nibmeister to turn it into a stub at some point anyways, but wow was I shocked that the previous owner had already had it modified! I think this promotes the pen from bargain find to sumgai status.

Hello Mookli

I received the tray, took out pens from my pen box, and put them together in the tray. It took one minute.

You did not mean that?

I started collecting vintage pelikans about 4 years ago.

At that time, most of these pens could be found on online shop or auction.

Maverick777,

Congratulation on a great find, truly a pretty pen, and that nib puts it over the top!

You also did an excellent job of presenting it, nice compositions, and photo work.

Always appreciated, thanks for sharing.

I'm with you on the sizing (and pricing). I find that 200s/400s are perfect (the M100 I have is not bad, but it's a bit shorter).

That blue M600 is GORGEOUS, BTW!

Wow! That's an amazing price. Didn't see that listing ;) luckily for us both. How do you like the nib?

I'm liking it quite a bit. Took some adjustment to get in the sweet spot, but I managed to adapt to the correct angle. I like the extra character a stub gives to my writing. I'd intended on turned this pen and my M800 into a stub down the road so I'm stoked that it was stubbed out of the box.

Here's a writing sample:

Oh, I love the variation you get with the stub, it's really expressive. Thanks for posting a picture!

I personally can't decide between EF, F, and M for mine... it's such a gorgeous pen I'd love to use it for as much as possible, so I think I'm leaning toward the EF since I tend to write smallish.

I'm waiting for my Brown Tortoise M800 still, but I found a great deal on a red & black stripe M600, so that is en route. Then, totally by chance, I happened to be wide awake at 4am a couple of days ago, and I scored a NIB solid blue M605 for $159 in the classifieds. I have a thing for blue, so I'm stoked about that. 3 birds incoming to add to the flock.

I enjoy MB 146 pens, Sailor, Pilot and Platinum pens as well. I have a strong attraction to dark red and muted green ink, colors I dislike for everything but FP ink. I also enjoy practicing my handwriting and attempting to improve it. I love the feel of quality paper under a gold nib.
