I know this isn't exactly a repair problem but as a newcomer to FPN, I wasn't sure where else to post it. I just received a new Platinum Century #3776 from a dealer in Japan and I'm disappointed to discover that it often skips for the first stroke or two (or three!) when I uncap it, or when I resume writing after leaving it uncapped for just a few moments. I flushed the pen with distilled water only and let it dry thoroughly before inking it for the first time. The pen is black/gold, broad nib, filled with Iroshizuku Ku-jaku. It is my first Platinum pen. Any suggestions? Thanks.

If you have a loupe closely inspect the nib. It sounds like you may have some alignment issues. Tines being out of place can cause skipping and the slit being set wrong can also cause flow problems. Either of these things can be fixed with a little patience and appropriate working of the nib.

On the chance that there is still some factory oils or lubricants coming into play here, you might want to try cleaning the pen with J.B.'s Pen Flush as well.

Thanks for your advice. I tried the pen flush -- it still skips on occasion, usually only on the first stroke, then it seems to be o.k, after that. I hadn't read of people having this problem with this pen, so it has surprised me. I'm going to check with a friend who has a loupe and likes to tinker with pens and have him take a look.
