Advise Needed On Mb-144

Hi everyone,

I am a student and I am thinking of getting myself a MB144 primarily because the costs of the 146 and 149 are far beyond my budget. I have seen video comparisons of the sizes and I am a little unsure and was hoping to get some help from the MB experts on here!

  1. I have used a Parker 51 (not demi) and its size is perfect for my hands. How does the P51 compare with the MB144?
  2. How fine is a MB-144 fine nib? :) .. I do a lot of math and I like a fine point. For example, how does it fare against a TWSBI F or EF?
  3. For its price range, is it a workhorse like the Lamy 2000? I don't have a Lamy 2K but I have heard tons about it being able to last a long long time!

If anyone can give me a pictorial comparison, I would be very happy indeed! If you have one you want to sell.. you could msg me too :D

I hope I didn't step on any toes :) .. just trying to make an informed purchase! Thank you!

I have both a Parker 51 and a Montblanc 144 (1980's version). What I can say is that...

1) The 144 is much smaller in diameter compared with the 51. Still feels good in hand but the 51 looks and feels substantially larger.

2) I don't find the 144 to be a needlepoint like my 51 is but it's still a reasonably fine line. I have a TWSBI F and EF and I'd say my 144 is just a slight bit larger line than the TWSBI F.

3) I think it is a workhorse but I would say that about all of my pens. Great writer.

+1 on everything sarge said above. I used to have a 51 and I can concur with everything he said.

Thanks a lot ! The comparison with the P51 helps a lot :) I might just skip the purchase and save up for the MB146 ... someday :)

I think if you could save for the 146, you would be much happier. The 146 is much more comfortable for my hands than a 144. However, my 144s see a lot of paper time as well. :P
