If this is an old rule, I wonder if this eliminates fountain pens altogether, since before the Noodler's/Platinum formulations, the only way to get true black permanent ink was India ink, which is not FP friendly. As far as I know the only permanent FP ink was iron gall, which can be many things, but not true black. I could be well off base on that one, though.

And exactly WHY does he NEED to be forgiven at all.....

Since when is it some kind of major transgression for a head of state (or anyone else) to use a pen he wants to use....

I use a fountain pen for all my writing.... but that is because I like using a FP...

This holier than thou attitude amongst some FP users is rather offputting.....

And FP users wonder why other look at them odd and give them a hard time....

The King of the Belgians does award royal warrants of appointment like the British royal family does, but I don't know how much cachet they carry in Belgium. In Britain they are highly coveted and can add a huge amount of prestige to a company as well as a lot of free advertising.

 

Parker actually has two royal warrants, one to HM The Queen and the other to HRH The Prince of Wales. Parker used to display their warrants more often on advertisements and the packaging of their higher-end pens like the Duofold, but you don't see them as often. Perhaps they have lost their cachet or it could be a result of the closure of their Newhaven, UK factory 3 years ago.

Well, I believe it was actually Registrar's Ink (blue-black) that was required to be used and the Registrar provided the fountain pen for you to sign when registering a birth, death or marriage. But sadly those lovely old records are coming to an end and now these things are being done on computer.

 

Perhaps the inability of so many to use a fountain pen hastened the change-over.

I think you will understand if I say that 1830 was a capital mistake,. I buy my FP in Tilburg and Den Haag, these friendly shopkeepers can help me in dutch. By the way someone asked why he didn't use a Conid, well probably because it is manufactured in Antwerp and not in Brussels.
