Diamine Salamander - An Overview

The Good Captain

Recommended Posts

I've heard from Diamine this morning that Salamander will be released in October after 'some unexpected delays'. There is also news of a new set from them as well and if time permits I'll get scans of the new ten colours up on here today or tomorrow.

You're not helping! :)

Thank you. Oh, and for the record, it washes out of a Pelikan a whole lot easier than the Diamine Racing Green. I had one hell of a job, getting rid of the pink component of that ink - had to resort to ammonia solution in the end.

Good to know, thanks.

That really looks great. I've slowly become a sucker for darker olive greens. Can't wait to get this!

I note that The Writing Desk are now showing Salamander in their Diamine swatches with a stock availability date of 11th October. Not long to wait, people.

It went on sale in Manila this afternoon (the 12th) and everything the distributor brought to our pen meet was sold out in a couple of hours! Really, really nice dark olive. I love it - inked my Pilot 823 with a Mike Masuyama cursive italic nib and scribbled away. Drops on a paper towel dampened with water reveal a dark olive with a yellow halo. Interesting.

It would be interesting to see how this ink and Stipula's Musk Green would compare. They appear quite similar.

Oops, it appears that Stipula has about three names for this ink color and the connection has already been mentioned.

This was my first thought, too! I'd love to see a comparison between the two as Stipula's offering is one of my favorites ever.

GREAT review and introduction to an exciting new ink from Diamine.

I am loving this thread- all the "that reminds me of X!"s are helping me build up a future shopping list, haha

But seriously- the ink this most reminds me of is Noodlers Walnut. I got a sample of this a while ago, put it in a pen, loved it, left the pen for a few days, went to write with it again- and it was as though some sediment was in the ink which gave me a centre of line which was dark and then with the slightest of green tinges around the outside. Which I quite liked actually. I'm out of it now and can't find my class notes where I used it, so I wonder if anyone here (including OP) has some to compare the two?

I'll definitely be ordering some of this if it is indeed my perfect "walnut" that doesn't involve me having to order some actual walnut to my mom's address, trying to walk her through repacking it to send to me in the UK, and the inevitable arrrgghh moment when it arrives un-repacked along with a rant from her about how much the shipping cost (she will never grasp the concept of "priced by weight AND size", poor woman)

You mentioned Kant and I was shocked, so shocked!

Noodler's Walnut is sort of a gray-brown and the Salamander is more of a musk-green. I have both inks, if I can remember how to post pictures I will post an iPhone picture of both inks this afternoon, perhaps a comparison of Montblanc Racing green as well.

oooh, thank you- I did wonder, when I went to Diamine's website it showed as a camo green, I wasn't sure who to trust (how dramatic)

It's absolutely NO rush as I've just bought some R&K Blue Mare and Cassia so will be plenty busy with ink for some time now!

I've been using the Salamander for a couple of days now, and it is definitely a fine addition to Diamine's range of green inks.

I LOVE earthy inks like this, I just wish I could find one that was 'eternal' are in 'archival' properties.

+1. Been using it for a week or so. Really nice ink, love the colour.

I am no longer very active on FPN but feel free to message me. Or send me a postal letter!

Has somebody compared it already to Diamine Racing Green (created for missing-pen.de)?
On the scans Salamander appears (at least for me) to be similar.

Sorry, somehow overlooked post 51. :(
