Visionnaire Fountain Pen

As of about 7PM Eastern US time, 12/13/13, the journal project is cancelled.

It seems there is a small group of people who are watching for him now. I doubt he'll be able to launch anymore projects under that account on KickStarter. Which means he'll open a second account or sell the cheap pens on another site.

Annoying part is that he is still laughing all the way to the bank, and he can afford to lay low for a while, or re-appear in another guise elsewhere...

It's good to see Morgan's true colours showing through finally. Not that the majority of audience here had any doubts, yet it's interesting that finally a situation has arisen that he just couldn't help himself.

Makes me sick how he used his son, and that whole story about signing the birth certificate etc!

FPN was the catalyst to his undoing. :W2FPN:

I truly believe that this forum and thread in particular educated all those caught in his incredible story. It is unfortunate that it played out into a story of deception and marketing wizardry.

As a wise man once told me, S*!T floats to the surface

Hats off to all involved in making KS and the world a better place. :notworthy1: There will always be those looking to take advantage of others and together we can hopefully educate and inform those around us of the unscrupulous out there.

Matt really stuck his neck out there on this one, fighting a tough battle on the KS campaign page. Even Fiona on KS has come full circle to recognize the project for what it was. A scam.

Exactly. Thanks for everybody clearing all the strange stuff! Especially Matt! I'm really glad the second project is cancelled, because it's a shame if Morgan earns another dollar from the fountain pen.

Yep. He suckered me too.

I hate that.

The only thing I can think to do is to try and claim on the warranty in the hope he ships another pen out here.

A tiny fraction less in his pocket.....

But hey! I found this place and I've discovered the word "Lamy", so it's not all bad. Is it? :)

My pen arrived today, the nib bleeds a ton and my fingers dont like that at all, it seems I havnt received one of the dodgy specimens, however my Safari is by far a better pen, it feels stronger, it writes a hell of a lot smoother, and the ink doesnt leak from the nib like crazy

Hey guys... Still following along here and on Kickstarter. First off... I find it a little bitter sweet that this guy actually turned out to be as bad as we suspected. This is one of those times where being wrong would have actually made me pretty happy. If not for the simple fact that there are most likely quite a few very upset fountain pen "newbies" out there that have no knowledge of FPN or what to do with their poorly-made fountain pen. While it's great that he has somehow managed to introduce people to fountain pens (who, in turn, found their way here and will be life long fountain pen users), I'm afraid there are probably a significant number of individuals who will never touch a fountain pen again after dealing with this fiasco.

I also have to say that I'm quite disappointed in Kickstarter's silence in this matter. I realize that they pocketed a cool $15-20K, but it seems like if they really cared about small start-ups the way they claim to, they would have at least addressed the people that had concerns about the project. Even if it was to clarify that the project didn't violate their rules.

Finally... You guys have said some really great things about me sticking with this and helping out. I'm glad to do it and am humbled by your recognition, although I wish that I had been wrong. I don't really feel like I deserve any sort of acknowledgement as we were all in it together as backers and supporters of Morgan so I don't think any one of us is any different than the rest. I'm hopeful that some of my insight helped someone make a more informed decision about their next pen or that I was able to get someone's pen writing. This forum has helped me tremendously over the last year or so and I'm glad to have learned enough from you all to be able to give that knowledge out to others.

It would have been a greater shame if he had ruined the name of the notebook's creator. Glad she realized what she was getting into.

Same here! Heard about FPN from the KS comments and I've got a Lamy Vista now that I love. :D

I'm thankful for all the people who've found FPN (and presumably other fora).. and are moving on to other well functioning writing instruments.

I admit to checking on the KS thread drama now and then, when reading for examinations and presentations gets too overwhelming.

I have been appalled and amazed at the sheer gall of Morgan &c. I've also been somewhat disappointed with KS lack of action and can only assume (and hope) legal 'stuff' is happening behind the scenes about which they can't comment at the moment.

Mostly (finally) I've been really impressed with Matthew's (and others) staunch refusal to resort to name calling or lower themselves. The 'drama' has been conducted on a much higher plane than the usual trolling, nastiness, ad hominem attacks and mudslinging that seem to define internet drama these days.

Well done, ladies and gents, my (virtual) hat's off to the lot of ye.

Regards from cold rainy grey Norway.

PS Thank you for the much needed breaks from writing up 439 pages of data collection... Best wishes of the holiday seasons to you and yours.

Oofta! I'm ready for some lutefisk.

Lillyhammer's second season is now available on Netflix. I think Johhny and Torge would have found a way to settle with Morgan. Or at least incorporate the scam into the Flamingo's operations.

I didn't even notice when this pen's KS campaign came out, so I had to read everything in this thread to get back in the loop. Major kudos to Matthew and everyone else involved with outing this scammer!

On the Kickstarter comments someone posted a link to this summary of the Visionnaire saga. I wonder, if all of us who have facebook/twitter/blogs posted links to this, how much dust could we kick up?

Not to toot my own horn or anything, but The guy that wrote the story interviewed me for the article. He quoted me a couple of times. Also... the photo at the top with the green overlay is mine, as is one of the videos he linked to. :)

I seriously considered helping this project when I saw it but after reading the comments I was a bit scared off and combined with not much spare cash at that time I decided not to. I instead went and found some old pens at the antique store and I am very happy. I am not new but after joining and reading here I am glad I made the better choice. I can see myself reading the fountain pen network often and buying more. I have my eyes on a clear pen now

Looks Like Morgan likes to race cars. I wonder if he used the Visionnaire to map the course!

9:20 in the video he speaks about the win. I think it was due to the fact that his son wished him good luck in the morning.

I think it is excellent that someone can make a fountain pen that works with India ink, for such a low price. Though the design is a bit bland, the fact that the manufacturer demos it with India ink is impressive and worth the price of something that would otherwise be just another Jinhao.
