I have recently noticed my collection didn't include any white fountain pen.

Pelikan do make a very attracive white pen, but I prefer other colours because I have seen some white pens get a nasty stain.

Tom Aquinas, this is true; I used to have a cheap white schoolpen when I was a child, and its colour was quite fragile. But still ! :)

Wow, I am totally impressed by everyone's collection. Pelikan Souveran White Tortoise is my dream pen, incidentally.

 

Here is my small collection... nothing fancy, but hey, they are just as white.

Hallo ,

 

Just a question : what is your experience with the Montegrappa Symphony ? Is the quality of this pen OK ?

I have been told that Montegrappa had some quality issues at the time they launched the Symphony . True or not , I don't know.

 

I just found one Montegrappa Symphony in a shop , but I am hesitating to buy it , just because I am not sure of the quality .

 

Any advice ? Thanks

Well the Symphony was made over an extended period both by the Aquila family and then the Richemont/Montblanc group and made in both Bassano del Grappa and IIRC Milan.

 

I can only speak based on my small sample and what I've heard over the years but the Symphony pens I have are as close to perfect as a pen could be. What specific problems did you hear about? Under which manufacturer?

Hi,

If I remember well, I was told that there were some issues during to the " Cartier period " ( 2000 ? --> 2005 ? ) , and that things were getting better during Montblanc period ( 2005 ? --> 2009 ? ) and that since that Montgrappa was back home at the Aquila family , everything was again under control.

No specific complaints ; just general things : support could be better , finishing of the products could be better , quality of products was not constantr etc... .

But again , and I repeat : true or not , I don't know , I just wanted to hear more from people who had experiences with a Montegrappa FP .

 

In the meantime , I could make a deal : 1 x Symphony FP + 1 x Emblema FP at 80% of the price of 1 x 1930 extra FP .

Looks like a fair deal to me , I will take the risk - if any - with the Symphony.

Pens are like watches , once you start a collection, you can hardly go back. And pens like all fine luxury items do improve with time
