Nakaya Chinkoku Housuge Shu

All the Nakaya pens I've seen are stunning pieces of art. But to justify moving to into another realm of pen quality and price is difficult for me. It must write like a dream and fit my needs. And I'm still trying to figure out my specific writing style.

When you have pen and ink, every problem needs a piece of paper.

That pen is heart-stoppingly beautiful! I also have enjoyed your photography and your writing is very nice as well.

betweenthelens, thanks! I'm a pattern-oriented person, so the Housuge was a natural choice for me - the surprising thing I have discovered is my love for red/reddish pens. My favorite colors are normally aqua and deep blues, but these warm colored pens have a very "vintage" feel, like the old red hard rubber and permanite pens made by Waterman and Parker (among others).

Celerity-dad, patience is definitely a virtue! Nakayas might not end up being your dream pen, but once you find the perfect pen for you, you'll know it, and be happy that you waited :)

Lisa, that is exactly it

The color reminds me of cinnabar jewelry or snuff bottles.

Wow, I had never seen snuff bottles before - they look amazing!

Thanks legume! I am not sure that the kikyo-tamenuri is still being done - you might contact Classic Fountain Pens and see. I know that the solid kikyo-tamenuri was discontinued, but they might still do the housuges :)

That is a truly beautiful pen, Josh! Love the contrasting colour on it.

(But I must say, I am still utterly besotted by the Edison/Hakumin Ishime pen I got from you - my favourite in the collection!)

Cheers,

Ken

Your practice has paid off. I feel like I need to get better at my own handwriting to justify a Nakaya pen like this.

Wonderful pens Quinden, I think you made Leigh Reyes proud, very accomplished penmanship.

I am in the above camp, described so well by Celerity-dad.

Nicholas and karmakoda, thanks very much! It helps that this pen makes me want to practice and practice and practice... :)
