Another Seahorse, With Other Pens

Hi Karmakoda, thank you for your kind words. You are correct about dating: the pen with the two-toned nib is not my 149 from circa 1994, but instead my first 149, which I bought new in 1980 for my twentieth birthday. It was originally fitted with an EF nib (I still have it), but I immediately changed it for a very wet F nib, still good today as it was at the beginning. Actually, the 1994 nib I have is effectively a EF, which I also use quite often for both drawing and writing.

You are most welcome, fpupulin, when I googled Jean-Pierre Borle, an engraver that developed the design for the Omega Seamaster seamonster logo, your illustration was prominent among the results. Deservedly. It was also interesting to learn about the sculpture(s) in Venice that may have served as inspiration for the design.

Thank You again for sharing this remarkable ArtWork.

Fine work!

I didn't realize that folks drew with their fountain pens. I seem to recall seeing (was it on the FPN?) a book illustrator who drew with a MB 149 -- was it you, by any chance?

That is probably Steve Light.

Unbelievable!!

Not something that can be done with an OB I presume?

The pen I write with, is the pen I use to sign my name.

Hi BMG, thank you for the compliments. Effectively, fountain pens are great instruments to drawn with, and depending on the nib size they provide a lot of possible variations. I'm not an illustrator by profession, and I think pmudhepo is right suggesting the illustrator you refer to is Steve Light.

Hi Husmin. Actually I have a 149 fitted with an OB nib, but I do not use it for drawing. At least, I never do until now, but that good nib would deserve a try. The best nib in this size for both writing and drawing is, IMO, the F; M is also good, and EF could be fantastic, if one develops a writing style that fits the very pointed tip. A variety of nibs is often the main force that drive an aficionado collecting several "identical" pens.

Stunning drawing  Congrats on the aquaterra, wear it in good health

Pens are like watches , once you start a collection, you can hardly go back. And pens like all fine luxury items do improve with time

Jean-Pierre Borle (1926-2006) was my beloved grandfather. He had an incredibly creative design and was one of the greatest admen of his time. He thought of the SeaHorse concept while on vacation in Italy. E-mail me at jgb7sg@virginia.edu if you would like to know more about his oeuvres

You are very talented. Cobgratulations and thank you for sharing with us.

The drawing is stunning, and the pens are beautiful.

Ovide used the citation, again, in the Metamorphoses (10.519) - just for info. ;)

Dear all: only today I noted that this old topic has surfaced another time, thanks to your curiosity and kindness. It was great to see that so many pen passionates like the Seamster/Seahorse.

Actually, this is the second Seahorse of a series of three, this one called "Infinity" as the shape of the monster makes an horizontal 8, the mathematical sign for infinity ∞.

The third Seahorse is the "Virginian Seahorse", posted here before: https://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/index.php/topic/259909-a-extra-fine-149-aurora-black-ink-and-a-third-seahorse/

The first Seahorse, originally down to celebrate a beautiful gift from my wife, was posted here: https://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/index.php/topic/241899-hemingway-seamaster-seahorse/

Thank you again to you all for your kind and deeply appreciate words.
