Waterman - Mysterious Blue Ink

This is a follow up review of Waterman's Popular blue black ink, Mysterious Blue. After letting the ink sit in the pen for a couple of days, I did notice some initial flow problems. A twist or two on the converter solved that problem. In my initial review, the biggest problem with the ink in my opinion was some feathering. It was nothing terrible, but it did keep this ink out of the five star category of inks.

I decided to write on some Rhodia paper, to see if there was a change in the feathering, as well as Franklin-Christoph's new line of paper (which I have found to be even better than Rhodia when it comes to feathering.)

The feathering considerably went down, but it was still slightly there. Another plus, was I noticed no significant difference in the dry time on these other papers.

Sorry for the images not being in the original post, the files were too large to be attached.

If your flow could be improved by playing around with the converter/cartridge then that's not a character of the ink but one of the pen.

I have never seen any flow problems with this ink.

Still, I don't like it at all because for me it's not a 'blue-black' but rather a blue-green-grey.

It may not be a true blue black but I love it! If I have a pen that isn't writing as it should I am going to try this ink in it. But I guess that's why there are so many inks. :) Personally I think that green tint makes it unique and why I like it so much. It would be great if it were waterproof, but then it would be hard to clean. Can't have you Kate and Edith 2.

Agreed. I have heard many people having flow problems with the Jinhao x750. It's an unbelievable pen for the price, and the only problem seems to be that it doesn't provide enough ink for the large nib.. But I also experienced it to a slight degree in the Lamy Safari Pens, which I have found to be rather excellent when it comes to flow.

it is the famous waterman blue black, one of the best waterman inks. It works well with parker 51s and sheaffer triumphs

Pens are like watches , once you start a collection, you can hardly go back. And pens like all fine luxury items do improve with time

I gave up on this ink awhle back when it was "Blue Black". Actually changed color to a green teal which looked horrible.

Tried a sample of this new formulation and surprised how it now stays a very pretty blue-black with hint of green or teal. I know Richard Binder swears by Waterman for all pens, so will probably be buying a bottle when I'm done with my Sailor Blue Black

I tried a fill of Mysterious Blue when I had a new-to-me Parker Vac serviced at the DCSS, and really liked the ink a lot. So now I've got a full bottle coming in the mail. This was a case of not really needing to spring for a sample, since I'd really tried the ink already.

Please post some images when you've received it. Comments by someone else on here say that this ink doesn't dry quite so 'teal' as the earlier named 'Waterman blue'Black' and I'd like that confirmed. Or not!

Sorry, but don't have the necessary equipment to post images. Maybe someone else could???

That's also why I don't do ink reviews or have a pic on my avatar

Will do (got email today saying the Goulet order was shipped, but the USPS website doesn't have any info on the tracking number yet -- I expect the shipment to arrive in a couple of days though).

You'll have to do a visual comparison with the old version yourself, because I don't have that. Nor Quink Blue-Black (which I've read someplace on here might be the same ink these days, given that both Parker and Waterman have the same conglomerate as overall owner).

Thanks; I'll do that. I note that my original written example of both the Waterman and Quink are now really teal. I'll rescan to show, when I can.
