Nakaya Ao-Tamenuri Decapod Twist - It's Here!

Thank you for the photos guys, that's one amazing pen!!! I don't have any Nakayas (YET) but they have been on my wish list for quite some time and this thread just made sure that ao-tamenuri Decapod Twist is on top of that list ;) To my mind, the underlying teal/green colour complements the twisting facets really beautifully. Sooner or later, I HAVE to get one of these <3 I think I might have to start with a Long heki-tamenuri though...

Viridis, sounds like some good options :) Both the ao-tamenuri and heki-tamenuri are fantastically beautiful; I think that the darkness and depth of the ao-tame make the faceted pens the perfect choice to show it off, just like the kuro-tame.

Currently using:Too many pens inked to list, I must cut back! :) I can guarantee there are flighters, urushi, and/or Sheaffer Vac-fillers in the mix!!!

I believe the section on the Twist is slightly wider than the standard Decapod, so it will most likely be fairly similar to the Portable and Long Piccolo in the hand - maybe you could also try and find someone near you with one of those as an alternative, given the Twist is fairly new and probably quite scarce still. It probably doesn't help but I don't really notice the barrel facets when I hold my standard Decapod, but I do notice its narrower section and lighter weight compared to most other Nakayas.

I love this colour. The Decapod Twist without a clip may well be my next pen and this combination is a front runner in my eyes.

Seven months on and a couple of pen purchases later my Ao-tamenuri Decapod Twist has reached UK Customs. Not long to go now hopefully...

Assuming it makes the final leg of its journey safely (fingers, toes and other body-parts firmly crossed), a full review and comparison to the standard Nakaya Decapod and Danitrio Octagons will follow!

I'm thinking a Nakaya! Nakaya! moment may be imminent...

Guys, you crack me up!

Well, I anxiously kept an eye out for the delivery van and, eventually, my parcel came...

Needless to say I didn't waste any time opening it up...

I like the new design for the Kimono, but what about the contents?

Oh, yes!

Suffice to say... Nakaya!!! Nakaya!!!

Thanks! I think maybe the colour is slightly exaggerated in the photo. It's there but a little muted at the moment - perhaps understated is a better word - but the overall effect is very serene and calm which is just what I need for busy days at the office!

There's a bit of a story about the nib. I wanted a plain gold fine - I figured the warmth of the gold would contrast nicely with the cool blue-green of the ao-tamenuri finish. I was initially dismayed to find that the pen had arrived with a soft-fine, which wasn't what I had ordered. I did a dip test and found it wrote beautifully with only the slightest spring (almost imperceptible with light pressure) so altogether a very nice writing experience.

I guess this is a case of all's well that ends well.

Many thanks to quinden who's original post convinced me to buy this pen. Full review to follow in a few days.

Painterspal: WOW - that is a really nice pen and a great color combo!!! I'm partial to Decapods & Decapod twists, but I really do love the colors.

Youstruckgold: I like the color of your pen - very nice shade of green. Was that a standard color or a special order? Also, (and if you don't mind me asking) what's the Kanji on the pen?
