Montblanc Great Character - Da Vinci

That seems like a huge step down in the section. I wonder if it would even be comfortable to write with over an extended period of time.

Hi libran88 ,here is the picture on the cap top. Sorry for the iphone picture quality. I think many FPNers prefer broader nibs or at least have some B or BB. This year MB provides only F,M in the WE but cancels B, you should send your pen back to Germany if you want a B. As the same many FPNers seem to do not like step down in the section (including me), why MB still continues to make such a pen? The answer may be more customers prefer F and M and may not care too much about the step section or even like the design because this makes the pen looks more "great". I use the heritage 1912 and WE as my daily writer or for an extended period of time. I use every pen I own except some maki-e pens, and I usually use pens such as PoA or Great Character in some special situations. I have to say I like the design of PoA and Great Character though the heavy weight and step section. Now the Da Vinci is on the way to Hamberg for BB.

Unfortunately for me I'd have to agree with:

My money is safe. It has a metal grip that is stepped down from the barrel, and it looks like the top is stepped down from the barrel too. Not for me, even if I won the lottery

Also, the fact that the pen was made out of aluminium was a deal breaker for me..But thanks for the lovely pics! Congrats on the pen!

Fountain pens are like weapons. They just make your pocket bleed so much.

Amazing design on this pen. Beautiful from a technical point of view. That step down is harsh, though; and I'm not one to usually notice the step downs.

Thanks to mjchuang9 for the great pictures.

I prefer the skeleton version over the former. Alas, I will never own either.

Wow - I saw the photos of the skeleton but the real thing is just magnificent. I gather all have aleady been sold - auction prices might reach the black widow / chaplin level :-)

@cipierre, which end time had this Event ? i was only to midnight there. It was a very nice Event only the red wine was not the hit :)

What i not understand, why he mentioned John Lennon in his presentation as great Character ? I thought the Line is, Gandhi, Hitchkock and then Einstein

I was at Paradise Pen today, buying up some midnight blue ink, and I was finally able to see the pen in person. It is rather large to say the least. I do not see how this could be a pen that would be used every day. If anything, I think it would look wonderful on a desk, but I believe it would be a chore to carry it.

The Lennon was the first, then Gandhi etc. I imagine they thought of the lennon as a 1-off and it was so successful that they capitalized on it. the difference with the Lennon was that they produced the "cheaper" unlimited version in black. I've been slowly collecting them a few years after release at drastically reduced prices. Just got my Gandhi last week......

It will obviously be a few years before prices drop on the da Vinci - and it is so different it may take off and prices may escalate, who knows?

Skeleton is appealing to look at but the other two seem more like NASA commemoratives. I love large pens, but that huge step would stop me even if it were a gift. What is MB thinking?!!!

I thought the Ghandi was before the Lennon. Also, the Lennon was never included officially in the Great Characters series.
