Cute Pens For Us Girls!

GabrielleDuVent

Recommended Posts

I fixed my wife up with a set, Pelikan Ruby red fountain pen and ballpoint one year for valentines. Last year I worked up a pair, probably the 200 series, I can't remember at the moment. One had red cap and white body, the other white cap and red body, and they interchange so she can have solid red or solid white.

Regards

Awww, I am soooo happy to see this thread zombied!!!!! It is so much fun to see everyone's pretty pens!!! So inspiring!!! Totally coveting the Cath Kingston pen... I just looked their site, and I only could find the boring, blue one....

I LOVE cute/ girly/ feminine stuff as well. When I was young, pink was the only color I liked. I added other colors as I grew up, e.g. purple and various shades of blue (especially turquoise.)

Hmmm, I want to add the pics of the girly-looking pens that I recently acquired, but cannot figure out how... :(

Hopefully I can do the image upload right... Here are a few more "girly"/ feminine pens that I acquired after my initial post, just to show off! :P

The top two are by Ines de la Fressange, a former French super-model. The black and purple one is by Online. Two solid purple ones and pink Hello Kitty have no brand names. The last Hello Kitty is by Bic!

Close-up of the top three pens... cherry blossom, rose, and... wild rose? looks like strawberry flower?

Here is a convenient little three-in-one pen from Online that comes with roller ball, normal nib, and a stub nib (plus an extra attachment of 0.8mm stub nib, sold separately.) It actually has the design of a black cat and a while cat, with lots of silver glitters.

Now- although I love beautiful/ pretty things in general, I do take function over the appearance any day. For example, I have only worn wrist watch by Casio G-Shock series for over a decade now. They are practical (easy to read the time and toggle between the time zones) and almost indestructible (there are reports of those watches worn by people in military, in combat zones, and surviving with hardly more than scratches!) I hate it when I have to worry about my watch breaking from getting wet or other minor incidents (my G-Shock is Water Resistant up to 200m, and- really, my kitchen sink or washing machines are not nearly as deep.) I *HATE* watches that are so elegant, dainty, and fashionable that it is impossible to tell time. When I have to go places where I have to actually dress up like a real grown-up and my G-Shock would appear "out of place", I would just go without a watch. After all, a watch that you cannot tell time from is just a bracelet. For me, even Baby-G is not practical enough. (I own one in pink, but almost never wear it.)

I tend to choose comfort over looks re. clothing items and shoes. I just load up on accessories that I can wear without compromising on comfort, such as pocket bags and jewelry.

In pens, I can get function AND the appearance. So- why not??!! As some ads say, "and" is better.... Might as well get the best of both world....

I want a Hello Kitty fountain pen BAD.

I'm sure you really want that black one up top that twists like a lipstick.

That is neither helpful nor what the OP asked for. If you don't have anything relevant to say, it's perfectly OK to not say anything at all.

On topic:

Wing Sung 333 pens fit my small hand quite well (also, they're nice and light), and some of the patterns are very pretty. The nibs are a bit hit or miss though.

I realize that the OP's original question was, "So ladies! What is your "pen design" wish?" But, over the course of the thread (8 months) posters have provided ideas on what might be considered a ladies pen, and from whom (manufactuer) such pen could be obtained. Thought that my links might be of some help. Sorry if I offended you in some way.

Your links didn't answer her question in any way, since you didn't provide any design insights. Also, it's generally considered rude to post a link to search results, the implication is that the person you're responding to was too stupid or too lazy to go do the search themselves (typically described as 'let me google that for you' or 'LMGTFY'). I understand you didn't intend that, but that's how it's commonly perceived online. Hope that clears up why I responded the way I did.

I didn't before, but now I do. I'm going to now put the Duke Ruby pen at #3 on my list of next pens to get, behind the black Hello Kitty one and the pink one.

I didn't find anything wrong with your post. I know your apology isn't directed to me, but just so's you know, I checked the link and thought it was interesting, all those ladies' pens. So at least one fpner found it useful.

Ran across this while searching some prices on a Visconti pen for myself. From this male's perspective, I find both items exquisite, and would be hard pressed not to comment on my feelings to any woman displaying either of them, What a pity it isn't also offered with a fountain pen.

I agree. I wouldn't mind that ruby red one as a fountain pen. :)

I'd like to point out that if by girly you mean intricate and delicate, then pretty much every maki-e pen is a girl's pen. But the almost entirely male group of artisans who produce them may take issue with the term (that's a whole other issue), and I doubt that it's only women who buy these pens.

To me, I guess a 'girly' pen would be any pen that isn't super chunky and stumpy. I don't really think of things in terms of 'girly' but more in terms of pretty, or cute. I suppose those terms may be considered effeminate. I recently bought a Pelikan M400 Brown Tortoise and I would consider this a very pretty pen, nay, adorable. But I'm sure there are plenty of people who would have never thought of this pen in those terms, and therefore a 'girly' pen. So to me, while this may be a very girly pen indeed, to others it certainly would not be.

fpn_1393023522__r0013116.jpg

Not my picture, stolen from here.

I would also like to add that I don't like the term 'girly'. The image it provokes of pinks and frills is just so unhelpful considering plenty of people of the female sex don't find that aesthetic appealing. And guess what, maybe a bunch of guys love the pastels and laciness. So it ends up being such a useless term.

And I say the female sex because the term 'girly' is so infantilizing, and incredibly condescending. We don't patronize males by asking, what's the most boyish looking pen? That has a completely different meaning than 'manly' but for some reason 'girly' and 'womanly' don't seem to have such differing meanings.

Interesting point! That is so true, at least for me. "Womanly" and "girly" do seem almost interchangeable for me. If anything, "womanly" sounds conservative whereas "girly" is more fun and cute. "Feminine" sounds a lot more elegant and classy though. "Masculine" on the other hand sounds even more testosterone-enhanced than just "manly."

I want a Hello Kitty fountain pen BAD.

Someone posted photos of one a couple of years ago and it was a really attractive pink. I'm not that much of a "pink pen" girl but I could see myself buying one. Except for the price. And the fact that it said "Hello Kitty" on it....

Tell you what. You can buy one for me. And then keep it.... :D
