hi

Just for having a confirmation as I could read in the past Danitrio always used high grade highly customised bock nibs, is it still the case? Or do tehy use jowo nibs now?

thanks in advance

best regards

Georges

Did you ever find out? I'd like to know also.

Franklin-Christoph, Italix, and Pilot pens are the best!
Iroshizuku, Diamine, and Waterman inks are my favorites!

Apica, Rhodia, and Clairefontaine make great paper!

Hmmm. I found this: https://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/index.php/topic/250815-danitrio-cum-laude-with-a-fine-jowo-nib/

from someone who has a Cum Laude with a JoWo nib. I also read somewhere that Danitrio uses Bock nibs now, but in older pens they used JoWo. Although I can't say for certain, that seems to be the case.

According to this post, the nibs with the fireball are Bock nibs, and the nibs with a "T" logo are JoWo.

I read the Nibs.com info linked to which does clearly state the 18K are made by Bock. I rarely see new Danitrios with 18K nibs bearing the "T" logo anymore. Are they still being made? (Brian Gray has said the "T" nibs were made by JoWo).

Some folks are saying that the older stock of Danitrio Cumlaudes, etc. have JoWo nibs... but I've never seen a reliable source for that assertion. It's a good steel German nib, at any rate.

I am using JoWo steel nibs (bought from Edison Pens and Goulet Pens) in both of my Danitrio fps -- Fellowship and Komori.

So they originally came with Bock nibs and you replaced them?

Yeah, I suppose so. I like the 18kt Bock nibs well enough, but there's something satisfying about using these steel nibs.

I still have the original nibs - for when I want to try them out again, see if I like them more. I have used pens long enough to have finally understood that what doesn't please me greatly today might greatly surprise me after a little while (a couple of years).

JoWo nib units fit in my Cumlaude and Bock units don't fit. This doesn't prove the factory nib was made by JoWo, but whoever made it produces JoWo compatible nib units. Is it possible that JoWo use feeds and collars produced by Schmidt, or someone else, and that any nib manufacturer can buy them?

Interesting to read about the possible origin of the 'T' nibs - I hadn't previously seen that. My asumption had always been that all the gold Dani nibs were from Bock, but maybe not. I sometimes wish Danitrio still made the firm T nibs available, particularly for the finer tips but it seems they're no longer available.

Like Lisa, I've swapped a number of my Dantrio nibs around at different times, and also found that other Bock manufactured nibs can be substituted. For example I've used a Stipula nib in one of my Danitrios and it worked really nicely - providing you can come to terms with the appearance! Conway Stewarts will fit too I think. My nib taste has certainly changed over the years so it's nice to be able to change things accordingly - different tines for different times (sorry!) :) .

Hmmm... of course what you wrote 'tis possible!

Re. the steel nibs: we're talking about a discontinued pen made late 1990's/early 2000's.

Please forgive a bit of my nitpick over facts versus conjecture: we can speculate all we want, based on our experience, and what incomplete info we do have, etc. Pen people are curious, and there's no way we're not going to speculate over this or that... But it's only that, fun speculation, ay? Sadly, we begin to repeat our speculations as fact. Royal "we" not meaning you, dear raging.dragon!

All I'm really sayin' is, it's a good steel nib, and we don't know who made it. We do know who makes the gold ones.

Um... that's what I intended anyhoo!

Don't they still make a non-flex F but with a Fireball logo? I've got an RF with the Fireball logo. I bought in 2010, I think.

I do this type of swapping too! My own nib tastes continue to evolve. :happyberet:

My understanding was always that the T nibs were the firm ones and the Sunburst were flex. NO?

Doug,

That info certainly has been true!

However...here's a photo of the firm Fine "Sunburst" or "Fireball" nib I got with my Fellowship pen (note the marking is "RF"):

I suppose for the current status of the "T" nibs, one of us might ask Danitrio or Nibs.com, ay?

Or maybe Kevin will weigh in if he's about.

Best,

Julie

And for anyone wondering what a "T" looks like, here's one from a Cumlaude:

I have a 15 year old danitrio pen (before they turned to make fancy make-i ones). It has a 18k gold nib made by Bock
