Delta Dolcevita Oversize Vs Dolcevita Oro Oversize

Did not know the Prodigio LE (25 pieces!).

Bryant did a great job in convincing Delta, I can't understand why Delta does not make it as standard (low expected volumes?), maybe with an ink window of some sort....

Email him again. He's generally prompt with the replies if he gets your mail.

I know, I've bought a few pens from him before and he usually replies within a few hours/minutes if I email him on a normal time on his side. I've sent him an email two days ago, I'l send him another one tomorrow or friday I think.

I did know of its existence, and I think I know why Delta doesn't make it standard; because of it's $1295 price tag I assume. It is a nice pen, but in my opinion it stands too close to the Oro to be worth 2/3 times the price of an Oro... Edited by Chopper88

The Delta Roma Imperiale (a cigar shaped pen which is even bigger than the Dolce Vita OS) is still somewhat readily available and combines the big nib with a piston filler. However, so far it's only been offered in ebonite (red, green, or blue wood grain) and a few limited edition demonstrators.

I know, but what's so appealing about the DV is the orange and black combo for me, thanks for thinking along though.

I've also sent Bryant an email again, and the final verdict is as suspected: No true oversize orange/black piston filled DV with a no.8 nib exists...

With that conclusion, I put my mind at rest, and a vermeil trimmed piston DV with a stub should be on the way here very soon :)

Sorry about that Chopper, I thought one would exist and meant no harm in sending you the link (along with a warning before you leapt...)

No problem at all B) Things are rather confusing with all the information and types floating around.

I appreciate you're thinking along with me (us) here. I'd been wanting to buy a DV for some time now, and had postponed it because of all the different types and names and me having no idea which ones existed and which didn't. This thread gave me a little push I needed to sort this out and buy one :)

For what it's worth I find the DV piston very comfortable to write with - it's just a hair smaller than the MB 149 (I have one of Bryant's specials with a #8 nib in the piston size, but none of these are available in the orange and black you desire). I'm torn on whether or not I want to get a DV oversize. I tried one awhile ago and felt it's section might actually be too thick for me!

Yeah I really like the oversize with the 8 nib I have 3 or 4 of them from Bryant. They are a little longer, little narrower than a Hemingway, but very nice. Bryant's also have a hand cut ebonite feed.

I've read a lot that people find it very comfortable as an everyday writer, and reading it from you also reassures me that it'll probably be very nice to write with. Seeing we both like some bigger Visconti's and have some of the same pens. I've also been contemplating whether to get a DV Oversize as well, but the fact is that I'd rather not buy any cc pens. My first fp was a Waterman Charleston, which I had fixed at a pen shop because it wouldn't write at all, and now I still can't write at the pace I'd like, otherwise it just runs dry.

This probably is just something that lives inside my head, as I would really like a Nakaya somewhere in the future, but for now, I'd rather not do it when there is a choice between piston and cc.

I also like some of the designs on Bryant's Delta's but I don't like the ones that are all in one color, and unfortunately most of them are...

The Hemingway also strikes me as one of the nicest pen designs. When I started collecting, I found it rather ugly (excuse me!) but now that I have way more understanding of pens beyond looking at their color, I find the shape, size and the oversize nib, with the classic 139 cap design it has a brilliant combination. I'm still not sure whether I'd like the orange, but I've heard people say a lot that it's far better looking in real life.

The reason I like the DV is that it has some of these features, but in it's own way. And the orange on the DV is just beautiful!

I'm not actively looking for a Hemingway, but I'm sure one would find it's way here some day...

An update here:

I've received my DV Piston filler in vermeil trim with a stub, and I'm pretty happy with it! It looks great and writes great too. The stub is really juicy and wet, and feels more like I'm painting words instead of writing them down! The nib also fits the pen just fine in my opinion, of course the huge no.8 nib would've been badass, but it's not like this one is wáááy too small at all.

Too make things even more complicated on the sizing, this one says 'MID-SIZE' on the back of the cap, while it's actually an oversize, but not the oversized cc version... :headsmack:

Wonder what the medium sized one says if they put something on there as well

Anyone have a "medium" DV Piston filler? (Not oversize.)

I've got a chance to buy one of these at a non-outrageous price but I'm not sure if I should go for it or wait and see if I can luck into another discounted Oversize.

The Oversize attracted me because I'd love an eyedropper, and I like the idea of oversize pens. My ideal pen size is represented by the Pilot Custom 823, which I understand is similar to a MB 146. Is the Medium DV smaller than that?

Medium is different from Stantuffo size. The piston should be slightly longer..

Anyway, they're big. "Oversized" compared to other manufacturers -- hence the usual confusion about OS / Piston / etc.

They're bigger than my M800, just compared them a while ago..

Though all of my Delta's so far (Stantuffo and OS) come with #8 nibs so I don't know how a smaller nib (usually used in Medium and normal stantuffo-sized pens) would affect its "look"

It's "mid-sized" within the Dolce Vita line. However, it's over sized when compared to pens from other brands. Delta have a thing for making big pens. :)

Anyway the Dolce Vita lineup includes a plethora of different sizes: Mini, Undersize, Slim, Mid-Size, Piston/Stantuffo, Oversize, Stout, and Zen. Plus oddities like the Deskset, Papillon, and Lucky Pen.

The Dolce Vita medium or piston is nearly as big as the MB 149, which is to say far bigger than an MB 146 or Pilot 823. The Dolce Vita Oversized is bigger still, dwarfing the Dolce Vita medium/piston, MB 149, Pelikan M1000. If you want a pen sized more like the Pilot 823, the Dolce Vita Slim or perhaps Zen might be more to your liking.

I find the DV Medium/Piston look OK with the medium (unofficially: #6) nib, but look better with the oversized (unofficially: #8) nib. It should be noted that the #6 nib is itself a rather larger nib, being the same size as the biggest nibs from most brands, with only: Montblanc (149), Pelikan (M1000), Danitrio, Namiki, and a few obscure brands, offering nibs similar to or larger than Delta's oversized nib.

I'm not sure about using as an ED, I also thought of this, until I read a lot of complaints about stains in the barrel.

Chopper, BSB stained the converted ED Delta last year. No surprise really. I went back to using the converter and am happy with that use of the Delta.

I tried with some Noodler's ink, no permanent stains but pen looked very ugly (darkened spots in between the brillant orange barrel).

I decided to go for it (this is my first expensive pen purchase since my Custom 823), and ended up winning the auction for a new medium nib Medium DV for about $439 (including $12 shipping).

Hopefully this was a good deal. :)

I decided not to go with the oversize, because I figure if the Medium rivals my Custom 823 it's plenty big enough, and I mostly wanted the OS for the eyedropper--which apparently is not all its cracked up to be. I've never owned a piston filler before either.

At $427, I've already decided I won't be taking this one out of the house/office very often.

... And I just looked at Amazon and saw the same pen for $395 + free shipping. That's what I get for being ... generous ... with my eBay max bid, I guess.

Still, I'm excited. This'll be a great pen. :) I got it to reward myself for making it through General Chemistry I, which I just finished in 4 weeks (summer course). That was ... unpleasant.

Thanks for the help, everybody.
