Montblanc Lavender Purple Discontinued?

Recommended Posts

I too am a big fan of this ink colour.

However, I notice that if I do not use my pen for a few days the grip and the inside of the cap start to smell really awful. It is so bad that your fingers stink after using the pen for a minute or two.

I also noticed that the ink became really viscous when left for a couple of weeks.

Anyone else noticed the pong?

Because I like the colour, I'm trying to find an alternative. Are Diamine inks safe to use in a Montblanc fountain pen and which of their colours would you say is closest to Lavender Purple?

I'd say that Diamine inks are safe to use in any pen. Not sure about the colour similarity but I've got their Violet and Lavender and Pelikan 4001 Violet is mid-way between the two. Great colours all.

Did anyone ever compare it with Diamine Amazing Amethyst? Anyhow: bhbarto here recently suggested Diamine Grape as a replacement: https://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/index.php/topic/248552-diamine-grape-montblanc-violet-quick-comparison/

Alas, the big difference, MB Violet and MB Lavender have never stained any of my pens. Diamine Grape is a stainer. (at least for me)

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

  • 4 months later...

MB have started shipping this in the UK again via their authorised retailers. MB tell me that it will be on their web shop soon too.

I have no way of knowing if it is a new formulation or not. The box and bottle look almost identical but the box has "Made in Austria" on the bottom and the bottle label has a slightly smaller, crisper logo. The new ink seems a slightly lighter shade but that may be due to the age of my old bottle that had a use by date of Jan 2016.

Anyway, it is great to have it back because I had nearly run out :)
