Montblanc Lavender Purple Discontinued?

Recommended Posts

Folks, I was just at the Fountain Pen Hospital in NYC this morning and they still have a good stock of Lav. Purp. if you're worried and want to snag a few bottles just in case. I was bummed that they were out of Pelikan's Edelstein Amber.

I would like to try the Edelstein Amber myself, but it's so expensive when you can find it.

When I saw Eddie's post I rushed ou....onto my keyboard and bought two bottles--from Sears. Sears! Apparently Sears sells fountain pen ink. Online, at least. I'm sure some FPN folks were aware of this, but it sure sure surprised me.

And the very nice thing is that Sears' price was a few pennies less than what other online retailers charge. And shipping was less than $3!

I do wish LP were a wetter ink--a much wetter ink, really. But I like the color enough that I work with it.

Thanks to all who posted about this (here and in other threads) to let us know.

best wishes,

eo

Sears sells ink???

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

Don't know where to start?  Look at the Inky Topics O'day.  Then, see inks sorted by color: Blue Purple Brown Red Green Dark Green Orange Black Pinks Yellows Blue-Blacks Grey/Gray UVInks Turquoise/Teal MURKY

Sears' website is like amazon.com in that it has "marketplace" sellers. Currently the Lavender Purple bottles on sears say "Sold by Pen Boutique LTD and Fulfilled by Pen Boutique LTD"; I believe Pen Boutique is one the fine writing retailers in the Baltimore/DC area, but I have not been to their store(s) yet. Also the price at the time I just checked was way nice; including shipping less than MSRP. YMMV. I've never purchased anything via sears marketplace.

Thank you! I went and looked for fountain pen inks at Sears and never did find the MB Lavender which was okay because I already had it. Nevertheless, I learned something.

Yep, but I didn't know this until today--when Pen Boutique called me to say they couldn't sell me the MBLP bc it was recalled. Sears just hasn't updated their site.

It's still there, which stinks. Gave me false hope!

I hope the reformulation doens't change the color. Though I guess I wouldn't mind if it had a touch more magenta...I've been adding a couple drops of De Atramentis Magenta to my MBLP.

Not sure what is going on with MB Lavender, MB shops say that it is discontinued and yet independant retailers have all new stocks on their shelves

  • 2 months later...

Having decided on buying a bottle asap, I ran off and did my due diligence and here it be.....

As of the time of writing, bottles of Lavender are being offered by a fleabay uk seller at twice the going price (£22.50/$35 per bottle, plus postage). Or there is a Stateside auctioneer selling at $76/£49 postage inclusive.

And I thought the fountain pen world was relatively untouched by the dark side.

How naive of me!

I'd try Dromgoole's who even had the elusive Ghandi ink, or Vaness pen stores that even carry Akkerman.

Looks like their Midnight Blue is also getting the treatment too. Not available on a couple of UK sites until the new version comes out. We'll see.

Lavender Purple has definitely been recalled. Mb UK boutiques no longer sell it.

There has to be a reason, and I believe I know what that reason is. Personally, I wouldn't use it in a piston filler pen.

Hmmm, I have one of those sitting unopened which I purchased just before all this started. Now I am concerned. What are the reasons that you would not use this ink?

We don't know for sure, of course, but probably one of the ingredients is no longer classified as a safe food-additive and they therefore can't use it unless they run their own safety tests. Or something.

So to be on the safe side you shouldn't drink the old formula inks :)

I am no longer very active on FPN but feel free to message me. Or send me a postal letter!

I wouldn't be so quick as to equate this with 'the dark side'.

Bearing in mind that ebay sellers have to pay variable ebay listing fees to list an item, plus 10% final value fees on the total sale price that now includes P&P, plus 3.4% or 3.7% PayPal fees on the total price, plus quite expensive P&P (or shipping) for bottles of ink, this is merely sellers trying to sell without too much of a loss.

I don't know the precise current prices of bottles of Mb ink, but if I decided to sell some of mine I definitely wouldn't be able to sell them for what they cost me because it wouldn't be worthwhile.

It's not 'the dark side' it's just trying to not lose money.

Absolutely...I got through Med School, residency and much of practice stirring that 3am coffee with whatever was at hand...often a Bic type pen...I wouldn't recommend it though... ;)

I know there have been some issues with MB Lavender Purple, but I'm just wondering if MB has any intention of releasing it again? Thanks!
