Montblanc Lavender Purple Discontinued?

Bigeddie

Recommended Posts

I was in a boutique last week and the staff told me that MB Lavender Purple was discontinued. They didn't know what would be replacing it, or have any stock left.

Sure enough the MB refill website (UK) and Wheelers Luxury Gifts have removed it from their pages.

I didn't see anything on the boards; does anyone know any more about it?

Oh 'eck! It's British Racing Green all over again.

People with multi-bottle stocks of it, will be stroking their super-villan cats as I type; if this is the true case of affairs.

I have about a bottle and a half left, but it seems sad that any ink is lost in time :(

It would be nice if there was some warning (as with the CdA ink line) so people could buy a couple of bottles if they particularly liked it.

I'd read on here that it's been recalled by Montblanc for 'viscosity' issues. Can't find the thread or topic now though.

That might mean a reformulation then. The plot thickens.

Google is my friend! Thread on FPGeeks site here.

From that thread:

"

I have now received this email from Montblanc customer service; a different story to that received over the phone.

Indeed we confirm we are temporarily due to legal reasons withdrawing our
lavender ink. This is undergoing a redesign in manufacture and thus will
be temporarily unavailable for a period.
Thank you
Yours sincerely

The pre-existing thread is Lavender Purple Ink Permanently Withdrawn?

Ha, that "temporarily due to legal reasons withdrawing our lavender ink" makes me chuckle. To quote myself from the other thread:

I am assuming the "viscosity issue" is just some sort of BS excuse to cover some reason for ending it that they don't want to announce or admit. Like maybe some key ingredient is no longer EU safe/legal to use or is no longer available from any supplier.

It is nice to hear it most likely will come back in some reformulated manner.

Well at least there's hope it will return. I stocked up so much on the old "Violet" ink that I never got around to buying a bottle of Lavender Purple. Thankfully, I have enough of the old stuff to get me through a couple of years.

Didn't MB also discontinue the bordeaux or burgundy ( I just don't know which one)?

Yes, Bordeaux was replaced with Burgundy. Just like Blue-Black with Midnight Blue. In both cases (if not elsewhere, too) both new inks have a better lubrication and flow.

Based on some reviews here I had bought two bottles of that ink half a year ago. But they are still unopened in the drawer. I guess I should open them to see for myself what we are loosing here...

Greetings,

Michael

Anyone in London at the moment can find a couple of bottles of this Levender Purple ink at the Pen Shop inside Liverpool Street Station.

Kind regards,

An ink I will miss as this color has always been great even before they changed bottle design (previously known as violet). The lavender cartridges have been a disappointment for me, I find that the ink hangs up in the cartridge and doesn't move all the time which leads to flow issues unless you want to constantly shake it or squeeze it and they don't come as filled with ink as the other colors that I have (which is all of them).

Is there any easy way to tell them apart? I came across a bottle with the label damaged, so I have no idea which one it is. It's the older shoe style with a rounded end, not squared off, if that helps.

Rounded bottle is the older style.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).
