How Glue In Sloppy Loose Button Filler Part?

Gretchen

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I've got a nice old gold-nibbed Wearever with a cool pattern in mostly great shape except that the warped, shrunken button-filler nipple that the blind cap screws onto has fallen out of the pen.  The blind cap screws on perfectly, but the lower part, which needs to be glued into the pen body is floppy loose.  So, two questions:

-- what should I use to glue this in?

-- how do I do it in a way that has the blind cap fitting onto the pen correctly, but doesn't also glue the blind cap on?

Thanks for any help or suggestions!

Two components epoxy glue will do the trick.

Screw the blind cap on and apply some grease or vaseline in the blind cap contacting surface with the barrel

Apply the epoxy in the barrel seat and slide the part in while gently turning the blind cap to distribute the glue.

Align blind cap so it sits completely cylindrical with the barrel.

Wishing you success !

Silicone liquid (available spray-on at auto supply stores) is used as a mold release for resin ("fiberglass") lay-up with polyester or epoxy resins. Carnauba wax (the hard wood finishing and car wax) is as well. Maybe Google something like *resin mold release* and see what you can find. You dfinately do not want to epoxy the whole works together.

Thank you Ken! Yes, way back when I was making plaster casts and molds, we would use floor wax or Thompson's Water Seal as a mold release. So nice when such things work, and so sad when they don't.

Thank you Francis! Would silicon grease work to avoid gluing the cap on?

You are welcome !

Sure, silicone grease will avoid sticking risks
