Ink Suggestions For New Omas Paragon Please!

Hello

 

My latest purchase is winging its way to me from Italy and (being mad as a bullfrog), I like to match my inks to my pens. I know it's difficult judging pen (or ink) colours online, but I am considering Sailor Grenade or Diamine Merlot. The pen is described in various places as maroon, aubergine or purple. Which isn't remotely helpful. Anyone any thoughts on the two inks above or any other suggestions?

Diamine Amazing Amethyst could be an option - easy to get here of course.

I had the same color pen and used Akkerman Voorhout Violet or the more readily available Diamine Damson in mine.

 

Great pen. The color is like no other. By the way, I have an older Omas that is described as "Maroon" and the newer Aubergine that is sometimes described as maroon, but as you can see from the photos, they are not at all the same. I think the Aubergine you will be receiving is a much deeper, more interesting color.

That pen's a beauty! How does the Diamine Merlot compare with the Syrah? I have the Syrah ordered and think that might work as well.

De Atramentis, I believe. Something a little more subte but still aubergine-ish is Diamine Damson.

The Merlot tastes softer, and the Syrah more peppery (not at all like my DeAtramentis Pinot Noir)

 

Sorry ...I haven't tried either! Very pretty pen, btw.

congrats on your new Omas. it's very nice indeed. both Sailor and Diamine are equally good. my suggestion is get one that is easier for you to find, if the color is too close to determine which is a better match. however, quality speaking, i have always lean towards Sailor, as i find more complaints out there on dryness of Diamine inks than complaints on Sailor inks.

Diamine Damson is a little too dark for me - I prefer Merlot, which is a little darker and more complex than Syrah - and yes, I'm talking about inks. You could get the smaller bottles and try both Damson and Merlot. Damson sometimes looks more like black than aubergine, especially for the first line or two if the pen has been sitting unused for a day or two. Merlot is my current favorite of the burgundy inks.
