A Very Odd Stamp

I just completed a very nice purchase of a Mont Blanc 146 with a man who sent me the Pen from Poland. The stamps are really wonderfully weird, The flower stamp at the top is pretty normal, but what is the meaning of the man with the square white rectangle in from of his face with black holes for eyes? Is this an homage to bureaucracy, (notice the stamper on the right and the phone on the left). Is he anonymous? Anyone from Poland (or any stamp enthusiast) have a story for this intriguing stamp? The Lone Customs Inspector? Thanks.

I found this stamp intriguing enough to browse the internet. From what I've found it appears that the Polish Post Office is at last trying to come to grips with its overwhelming bureaucracy. The stamp symbolizes a bewildering array of these used to pass paperwork from one department to another before a stamp of approval is given, The paper with holes for eyes and the one the figure is holding depicts the volume of paperwork and the facelessness of the whole governmental system.

One European living in Poland has written that postal employees act as though they're just part of a bewildering machine.

It appears the postal system is finding itself up against competition from private delivery companies.

...so you are saying that we could issue a stamp like that and still be en pointe. Good Job! By the way, I found this wonder as well. There was a write up that the figure is actually a jaunty sign of the zodiac (Capricorn to be exact here) and I did find other pictures of what appeared to be stamps from Poland on tee shirts which showed other signs of the zodiac. Oh, and you can get these in a variety of forms from tee shirts to tote bags. I want one for workouts.

i don't think this stamp has as complicated a meaning as You anticipate. there has been a range of astrological themed stamps in poland, and in each one of them there's a manlike creature depicting a certain sign.

to picture a few.

Cool stamp! It really seems to belong to the zodiac series. "Koziorozec" means "capricorn" - not very flattering I would think. :-D

Kafkaesque, I love it and I love my tee shirt of it as well. You can get any one of them you like on a tee. See my link above (no I don't get a cut, darn it, I love the concept though).
