Pelikan M850

It's Sunday afternoon and I was fiddling with my M800 tortoise and thought of frankening it with a different cap.

Here goes how it looks like..

And now with its original junior sibling - unfranken M450 tortoise pen..

Thanks for posting - especially the last picture wih the "original".

Because when I saw the first pictures I thought "hmmm, looks good, but something's missing... what the hell ist missing..."

At the end I saw it - it's the golden knob for the piston.

In any case based on the brown color of the body the difference in reality might not be that big...

There are no facts, there is no truth - just a data to be manipulated...

Looks alright. Actually, the normal M450 in black and green striated have normal filler knobs, as well as M1050 etc.

Daeng, my old style 'M650' is on it's way; Franken M600 old style and M450 cap. I had similar thoughts as the above. Fun times :-) I will post it here if you don't mind.

Hi Daeng:

I like it this way, it does it matter to me if it is a Frankenpen,

Thanks for sharing, Tony. The photo shot with the trio combination looks great! Congrats on your latest addition of M450 vermeil cap..

By the way, is that brown tortoise the M400 recent special edition ie. which has the double ring cap?

No mine is just the old M400, not the M415. No ring on the filler knob as you can see, nor on the section. Monotone old style 14C. Engraved cap top logo.

Three silver / vermeil cap of M430, M450 - black & M450 - tortoise.

Daeng, If it is not too much hassle, could you please tell me how many chicks on the cap top logo of each cap? Especially on the 450 black and the tortoise... Because I'm trying to date my pen, sold as M450 which should have only one chick, but it has two on the logo..

Hi Tony

If you are referring to the correct version of M450 vermeil tortoise (with gold knob), mine has one chick while for the M450 vermeil black, the logo has two chicks.

I understand for M450 vermeil tortoise, it was not an issue to have one or two chicks as it was around that year, if I am not mistaken in 2003, the pelikan mum gobbled one chick. So Pelikan might have issued two logos for M450 vermeil tortoise at that time. Same applies to M400 white tortoise, where some buyer might get two or one chick logo.

However, for the M450 vermeil black, the logo should have 2 chicks. This souverän range of vermeil black was introduced for M350, M450, M650, M850 and M1050. Again if I am not mistaken this range was introduced in the year 1998/1999.

P/s Pelikan guru, please correct me if I am wrong.

congrats on the pen

Pens are like watches , once you start a collection, you can hardly go back. And pens like all fine luxury items do improve with time
