Finally couldn't resist the urge from this review, and got a TWSBI 580 from Shukla Pen Mart (Mumbai) - Rs 4500 (flat 18% off on MRP, ~USD 73 :P )

It's a fine nib and is a relatively wet writer, writes almost like a Japanese Fine.

Just my observations:

1) Initially cleaned the pen multiple times with a few drops of dishwashing liquid in water, as the pen skipped a little. Now it's a wet writer with no skipping.

2) It's a big pen, so no posting (and it looks like a space shuttle if posted :P) is required, comparable to pilot c823 in size, albeit with a smaller steel nib. Cap is quite substantial. (14g + 14 g)

3) For this one, Piston goes beyond it's prescribed stop if you close it in a hurry.

4) Fine nib is good - a tiny bit of feedback, but it's best not to compare it to a pilot c92.

5) Dis-assembly is pending ;)

6) And yes, packaging was of course great (Apple kind)

Is anyone having any problems even after the Pendleton fixing? As in, does the nib fall back into its misbehaving ways?

I am seriously tempted on getting one, but with me living in South Africa, it will be a great hassle if it falls back into its 'non-writing' ways even after the panache!

*This is not taking anything away from the custom work, but merely asking if the nib itself is the actual problem, even after being worked on.

I had Mr. Brown work on my M rose gold since nothing I did made it write correctly and the nib was pitting. So I figured what the hell. It came back and I learned that I suck at writing with a stub. So after I tackled that, the pen continued the taper off of ink flow. Upon examining the channel I found a build up of gunky oily (bleep) that I was able to remove with the back of a razor blade. It appeared the ink was bonding to whatever it was maybe grease? I have since found a similar substance on the feeds of two out of three recently purchased 580's. A tooth brush with dawn takes it right off the feed. As a side note the 580-al I most recently purchased was clean as a whistle and the fine nib wrote like a dream it even seems to be a bit softer than the other twsbi nibs that at as hard as a nail. I've sent the other nibs off to Mr Brown for a BLS treatment. So short answer yes. Try scrubbing your feed good with some dawn and a tooth brush.

I bought a 580 F couple of days ago and the nib is very sharp and not smooth at all even on Rhodia paper. I think the quality control is going down in the TWSBI land :(.

@ hari any pointers regarding shops selling the wrench and silicon grease ( whats its called in the area i had a tough time buying cabling/tar sheets/glasswool for my Home Theatre setup as they didnt understand the AWG codes and tilli said dambar patti they didnt know what a tar sheet was ) for me the conveyance is nil as i pass thru the area on way to work daily.

Silicone grease you can get in any auto repair shop. Ask for NBC Silicon Grease tube, costs Rs. 10 (20 cents) for like 100 ml.

Philip asked me to send back the nib to him and he worked his magic and now the pen writes super nice :). He says he opened the nib a bit to make the nib wetter don't know though how he did it.

I bought mine at the Dallas Penn Show yesterday from Anderson Pens. I went to a doctor's appointment afterwards and filed it with Noodler's "King Philip Requeim" while waiting. Doc uses fountain pens as well, so he used it to take notes and it started with the big blob drip. We put it away and I bags thinking it was an air issue. I've seen it before, on a Lamy, where the system was not sealed. It had a bad cartridge.

I talked to Anderson Pens via phone and he recommended flushing and making sure the nib was set in the section. Once that was fine, I refilled, and so far, no long pages, it is writing well.

Peace and Understanding
