Dublin Penshops?

I'm heading to a wedding, not my own, in Dublin, Ireland next week and was wondering if anyone on this board might have some advice about pen shopping possibilities there.

 

Shops that handle only new pens would be fine, but I would also be interested in antique shops or places that might have vintage pens available.

 

Of course, if the shop were next door to a pub, that would be even better.

I didn't particularly look for pens, but I did go shopping and I would have noticed if there had been a special pen shop, I'm sure - so I reckon there's better places than Dublin for this. In all other respects Dublin's great, though!! Enjoy it!

Ruaidhrí has mentioned a pen shop "around the corner" from his office. I have no idea where that is. I did a Google search once and found this one:

I expect there are more. If you travel to Waterford, the factory store there probably sells Waterford pens.

 

Ruaidhrí, where are you? This thread is in danger of dying from lack of local expertise.

 

Of course, if the shop were next door to a pub, that would be even better.

My understanding is that in Dublin *everything* is next door to a pub.

I only know Pen Corner.

 

Go to the bottom of Grafton street (other end from Stephen's Green), go over the road past trinity and follow the road to your left (Trinity will be directly behind you) Two blocks down it's on the corner to your left. It's on Dame Street.

 

Small shop, has pelikan's, MB's, Cross, Visconti, Parker, Sheaffer. Small selection of inks (lots of J Herbin downstairs at EUR 7 a bottle). OK selection of paper and notebooks. Some lovely hand made leather pocket books at a scary EUR30 a piece. Also has sealing wax and pre made stamps.

Sorry to resurrect a super old thread, but I now live in Dublin (moved here from the Cayman Islands last month) and actually visited The Pen Corner today during my lunch hour.

 

What a great little shop it is too! Small but packed tight full of great stuff!

 

I bought 2 Rhodia products today. A bloc notepad and a meeting book. I have not tried the meeting book yet but the grid 'bloc' pad is amazing. I got ZERO bleed thru using my Lamy Safari with a F nib and Lamy black ink.

 

I'm seriously considering ditching my plain red Moleskine notebook and heading down there tomorrow to buy a nice big Rhodia notebook!

 

The staff were very knowledgable too and really helped me in choosing new ink for my pens. I am currently using a mix of Mont Blanc black ink but the bottle broke in my luggage during the relocation flight. ARGH! I ended up buying a bottle of Cross black ink for €7. Very reasonable price I thought. They even offered to supply sheets of Moleskine (and other brands if I wanted) paper so I could test any pens or ink etc. Very good!

 

They even have Faber Castell rollerballs for €25! Super keen to pick one of those up tomorrow too! Shame it's not a Graf but one can dream!

 

Essentially what matters is the store is fantastic, great service, well stocked with great product and a perfect place to stop off in the city for all your fine writing and stationary needs. I'll definitely be paying them a visit again and recommend this store to anyone curious of dropping by Dublin in the future.

since we're on the topic of the Pen Corner in Dublin, I was wondering if anyone knows about their ink selection available? I live in Galway (a county on the west of ireland, Dublin's in the east), and have had no luck looking for shops selling ink and such

Great pub called 'The Bank' just down the street from it too.

Should be easy to find, located opposite the Central Bank, a landmark building in Dublin.

The best pen shop in Dublin is not actually in the city centre its in Dun Laoghaire. I've been a fan of it for 15 years now and Brendan the owner is now a friend and a great source of knowledge about pens and life in general. A real great guy who treats his customers correctly and always sends them away with a smile. If he does not have a pen in stock he will get it for you. He loves pens and is always pleased to help.
