Visconti Homo Sapiens Dimensions Appeal

Bigeddie

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

An appeal please for those who own either (or both) the oversize or the midi Homo Sapiens.

I can't seem to find the dimensions of the midi listed anywhere online, reviews, blogs, retailers, ect. I'd like to compare the two before deciding what to go for. The best I can find is likening the oversize to the m800 / Al-star and the midi to an M600. (I'm not too concerned about filling systems between the oversize and piston only steel midi.)

Any comparison of nib widths to common pens (Pelikan / Sailor / Lamy / MB ect.) would also be fantastic.

Photos would be ideal but any measurement information would be good.

Thanks,

Ed

According to https://chatterleyluxuries.com/product/visconti-homo-sapiens-lava-pen-steel-age-fountain-pen-midi-size/ these are the dimensions of the Midi and Maxi:

Visconti Homo Sapiens Steel Midi

weight--36-40 g

length--136-140 mm

diameter--12.1-14 mm

nib size--#4

Visconti Homo Sapiens Steel Maxi

weight--41-50 g

length--141-145 mm

diameter--14.1-16 mm

nib size--#6

According to http://www.pelikanpens.co.uk/acatalog/Size_Comparison.html these are the dimensions of the M600 and M800:

Pelikan M600

weight--16.4 g

length--13.4 cm

diameter--12.4 mm

Pelikan M800

weight--28.2 g

length--14.2 cm

diameter--13.1 mm

Hope this helps. I don't own any of these pens, so I can't post pictures.

To give you a hint about the bronze one's size, here's with a real car (although a small FIAT 500) and with a real bear :

About as long as the Pilot VP, twice the girth, and just a tad heavier

Thanks very much all, following responses I went for the oversize/maxi Bronze in a fine nib, it's fantastic!

Edit to add, after shopping around I purchased from Penbox for £297 (10% off of £330 with the code on the Homo Sapiens page), not ordered from them before, but shipping was fast and the transaction was smooth, highly recommended.

I'm considering getting this, oversized in bronze. It'll be my first Visconti. Anyone have anything to say about the Visconti stub?
