The Crimson Carene

A beautiful pen and a great job. A real tour de Force.

I am going to have to get a Carene now.

Very nice!

Talk about difficult to photograph. It's taken me about 50 shots at different times of day to get it to show the colour and this is the best I could muster.

I think it should look nice with the gold.

I will leave them to harden off before polishing.

Not forgetting the, unusual, never seen on a Carene, surprise I have with this rework.

What is the surprise?

Force, you can plan my castle onslaught any time.

...no, wait, that would be appropriate to the Dread Carene Roberts. Magnificent work, in any event.

It's mainly pens, just now....

Oh, good heavens. He's got a blog now, too.

How did you "fill" the slot where the clip should be, Force?

Place tape over the outside and dribble twin pack epoxy into the tip. Remove the tape and smooth the surface to match the profile.

Lovely, what a nice pair.

But.... did you paint two caps? or two pens? as this one is clipped???

If you look at the picture in my post of 02 June that is the old cap from which I 'borrowed' the new clip. That cap was beyond repair so I experimented and produced this clipless. It looks rather bare so I have a few ideas on making or having made for it a gold, slide on, clip but that will not be cheap. Similar to the early rubber pen clips.

You mean something like the clip-on clips that Kaweco does?

You might talk to Watch_art... He recently showed some sterling ornamented ring clips on one of his new pens.

The clipless is beautiful in its simplicity. It's stunning.

Yes and looking again what might make it real nice would be to forget the slip on clip, remove the button and fill it to match the top of the cap....all one would have then is the central gold band............oh no I feel another project coming on.

In between 58's and door overhauls I have been trying to get a good sharp picture but even with my D90 it seems way too soft.

You know, looking at the Ivory again, in my opinion you should paint the jewel in ivory as well....
