What Do You Do With Severely Scratched And Dented Pens?

Around my area, not many people use fountain pens so I'm pretty sure that I won't be taken seriously.

SO WHAT.... does that mean you have to give up your rights....

You have been abused and bullied... it could be for a book you read instead of a fountain pen

Grow a pair and stand up for yourself...

What do I do with severely scratched and dented pens?

I let Somebody Else buy them.

Bruce in Ocala, FL-being the nice guy that I am

What do I do with severely scratched or dented pens? I buy them from other people. Haha.

Of course, I learned all about not using nice pens at school, with my very first Cross, I was standing at my locker showing it to my good friend, and another kid just batted it out of my hand. It landed straight on the nib. I started bringing drugstore Sheaffer's after that.

Umm...Where'm I Goin' ?

I want to agree, but when the people in charge are the same "Kind" of personality as those who are harassing you, it only makes things worse. The administrator might me just as likely to respond by telling you not to bring nice things. It's so tempting just to smash their Ipod.

No, no, you have to talk to them. If not, you'll end up like I did with the bullying getting steadily worse until I ended up being rushed to A&E with a suspected skull fracture. Okay, you probably won't get it that bad, but staying quiet won't get you anywhere either.

Personally, I'd talk to your head of year or tutor or principal or someone, and show them the damage that has been done. Explain that it isn't an overly expensive pen and that's it's not the pen you're worried about but the bullying.

You can spot a writer a mile off, they're the ones meandering in the wrong direction muttering to themselves and almost walking into every second lamppost.

I agree with Old Griz, it is time to take this to the school administration. Regardless whether they will take you "seriously" for using a fountain pen. It is bullying.

So do I. Immediately. Also start a log of dates and times that this has occurred. If it continues to happen, go immediately to the principal each time and show her/him the list. If s/he takes no action, make note of THAT on your list and go to the assistant principal. If s/he, too, takes no action, you need to enlist your parents, either to go to the principal or above her head to the school board. This is bullying, plain and simple. Your classmates are (1) taking an item of yours without permission, (2) purposefully harming it, and (3) doing this repeatedly despite your requests to stop (presumably).

And from now on, if the pen isn't between your fingers, keep it in your bag (inside a protective cover).

Regarding your original question: if I still loved the scratched-up pen, I'd keep using it without change. If my affection for the pen waned as the scratches grew, I'd downgrade it to a kitchen pen, where it would stand in a pen cup next to a notepad for the family to use.

I'm sorry this is happening to you.

These are not friends. These are bullies. They already don't like you or they wouldn't treat you and your possessions this way. It's not funny. It's not "boys will be boys" or "girls will be girls." It's theft. Disrespect of you and your possession. Senseless vandalism of a possession. And it should not be tolerated, regardless of value.

If the administration does not treat this seriously [give them a chance], go to your parents. What you are reporting is mob rule by young animals exhibiting no manners, no appreciation, and no comprehension of civilized behavior.

Don't let them put the burden on you by accusing you of being a "snitch". You have a right to a peaceful environment conducive to learning. If the teacher cannot control their classroom it is NOT your fault and the adults are failing you. Time for civilization to come to your corner of the world.

You could, in theory, learn to fight back. But there will always be bigger, more vicious fighters or larger numbers of uncontrolled idiots. This is why people invented rules, laws, and police so they could go about their business without travelling in armed convoys or hiring bodybuards.

At risk of being laughed at, a Lamy ABC might work as a very rough and tumble pen. Pro is you don't have to replace the converter, the Z24 fits.

Post a picture of your pen-- let's see how severely dented and scratched it is.

It doesn't matter what the object is, your property is being taken and damaged. One of your teachers should take this seriously.

It's not telling tales to report behaviour like this - those other students are in the wrong, and need to be held to account. They need to learn they can't go around trashing other people's stuff.

To start off with you could tell them calmly to stop damaging your pen. If they don't, then go and talk to a teacher after class.

Good luck.

I usually have a scratch and dent sale. It's amazing what other folk like and what they will pay to take stuff you think of as junk. Once I sell all the dents and scratches the pens look like new and often I even have enough money left to buy a new one.

I agree with what many others have said, that this needs to be taken to the administration at your school.

As for what to do with dented and scratched pens, I have an Al-star which I adore that I accidentally dropped one day on concrete. It now has a chip on the edge of the cap and a few other little scratches. I was pretty upset at first, but now in a way I feel like it has a bit more character haha. I still use it everyday as my primary pen and look fondly at it. As long as your pens are not too terribly damaged I would try to look past it.

Good luck!!

As most have already said, take this to the administration first, and as a few have said you may want to learn to fight, but really that shouldn't be necessary.

If it comes down to physical actions, unless they have you surrounded and are planning on fighting, a quick one-two is more than enough for them to realize that, OH! getting hit in the face really does hurt! I had a similar situation once, but when the guy came at me I hit him in the gut and then again in the face. He fell down and and I left. He never thought to bully me again, and almost everyone else began to stand up to him too.

The trick here is you do enough to make him stop, and do it quickly, and then get out of there, run if you need to. You really are only defending yourself, especially as the bullies are typically bigger than you, getting in a toe to toe fight is usually not to your advantage.

I am sorry to hear that you have even been put in this position, but sometimes life can be testing. Do your best to handle it in a civil manner, and if nothing seems to work remember it is time to survive. Do what you think you can to enjoy your time at school, as it should be fun. I will soon be ending my collegiate career, and I have just realized that this is the last time that I am only fiscally responsible for myself and nothing else. I don't have car payments or house payments (although I am paying for college and renting an apartment), I am not responsible to maintain a family, I truly only have to take care of myself. Please make sure that you do not allow a couple of silly bullies take that amazing time away from you.

Wishing only the best,
