I recently bought an NOS 530 clear demonstrator for $20. It's really too beautiful to ink. Working the piston is fun.

 

Sorry, I disagree, put any blue ink in there ......and it looks at least twice as good...... :) ....incidentally, I don't use much blue....Diamine Denim or Pelikan Bl/Blk will do ....I guess you could use something / anything more 'trendy'. Red is even better...but a 'bugger' to clean...... :rolleyes:

+1! My 580 looks great with Waterman South Sea Blue behind the facets of the barrel :) :puddle:

Well, I probably won't buy any of those pens and I would also probably leave Aus for someplace cheaper to live. Sorry, but sounds like you guys are gettin screwed more than one way down there. Is it that nice a place to live that you put up with that stuff?

Hi Mr Jim Wang aka Speedy, it seems like buying a single pen is not worth your attention. I have wrote directly to you more than once regarding my situation that you are fully aware according to your staff however with no response from you at all. How would you not be aware since every email was cc to you since day 1 regarding my purchase? Upon the flaws found on the pen, I was then given instructions to draw arrows on the images as to point out what is effectively wrong? As if the issues don't stand out on their own?

If the streaks resulted from made to specs, why are they prominently found on the cap and not on the pen body? They cut through the brand logo on the other side as well.

If the streaks can't be considered a flaw, what's up with this nail length worth of scaring at the end of the pen barrel? Again, I don't buy the fact that this is nature from the manufacturing process as your staff will like me to believe.

 

While no apologies were ever made for a pen as such to be sent out to me, neither from you or anyone from your company, your staff even described my case of getting a replacement as a waste of time. The logic of what's ok to her may not be ok for me, further testifies the quality assurance dept or your own measure needs to step in as a guage that is sorely missing from my case. Talking about standards, http://blog.rti.org.tw/english/2013/03/01/twsbi-the-fountain-pen-maker/ entails that you personally tested over 100 different types of paper personally for the journal that cost less than $20 for fountain pens. Obviously it is telling you have quality in mind with your products. This micarta pen cost $100 and twice the price of the 580 making it the most expensive pen on the current lineup. Also please do bear this in mind I have not only emailed and called you guys up long distance at my expenses over this already. I don't know what kind of a company functions in a manner to sell end users directly when things go wrong decides to tell the consumer its a waste of time to amend the situation. And thereby decides that a refund should be the best solution. Here is the key difference, the person who feels that his/her time wasted on the matter from your end is getting paid for doing a job. It is quite the opposite from where i am standing as a consumer. I am effectively wasting my time on a product that should not have passed your quality assurance department in the first place while questions like when will i be in taiwan next or oiling the pen as a solution is not what I expect as a solution or expect from your brand name. To even have those questions presented to a disappointed customer is totally unimaginable. Before the situation comes to no turning back, I have asked you most kindly for a proper exchange as stated in my last email. Since the replacement option that was forwarded to me after all my mails and calls to the situation, the so called replacement option too has a patchy finish on the cap. While no further options were being offered from your end ever since. Not only so, my last attempt to reach you personally to your mailbox, I have stated that I am willing to see pass these flaws from the whole incident and to write a review on the replacement pen should such a positive arrangement can be met instead of a refund. Even that suggestion was ignored too. It is as good as saying, why bother? I will get back my money with no loss from the refund. Really? If your staff had the cheek to tell me it takes time to pack and go to the post office to deliver the package as services rendered for the sale, consider my time spent on the whole entire ordeal from ordering, waiting, being disappointed by the pen, and shocked by the words from the reasoning from your staff when the flaws speak for themselves. To top it all on the worst finale possible for getting a pen in that state and being ignored on the whole issue altogether by your company at the end. Am I not dealing with you from the premises where all your pens are produced? How hard will it be to find just another pen to make up to this situation? Unless your silence and lack of communication attest that the micarta pen you are marketing from your own website is purely for showcasing, I rest my case on this. I do hope you can consider my case more thoroughly before I find myself being part of the unlucky wagon that some have already reported being part of from this thread. It makes not much difference at the current rate of the situation. Please walk the talk in light of how you started this thread which in theory remains heroic. For the record, I am filing a dispute with paypal for this case as I have lost my faith in returning the pen on my own without their knowledge. Considering the email sent from 5 days ago on the matter the has not been addressed up to this present moment of writing from your end. A waste of time, yours or mine? Nice one Jim. wow, i am soo sorry to hear of these issues of poor service from Twsbi, when I have rec'd top notch service from them each and every time. I truely do wish you all well in the future of service from this company!

My 580 M nib had a bad case of baby's bottom with incessant skipping and flow problems as well as being dry. I wrote to Rebecca who posted me a replacement which works very well indeed: smooth, no skipping and wet fast ink flow. Very pleased with the service.

 

My 2 mini classics with F nibs were fabulous out of the box.

 

My impression is that overall, medium and stub nibs exhibit a larger number of problems.

Is is possible to buy spare o rings and rubber vacuum o I rings for the vac 700 literally all rubber parts

Contact them, they can tell you the size they use or add some in if you buy something from them. It is not worth shipping by itself.

It really does seem like TWSBI is striving to be a very good value proposition. They have high quality design work, fair priced, piston and vac filler options, but their QC leaves ALOT to be desired. To the point that I wont be buying another TWSBI product.

 

I have in the past bought a rev 1 vac 700, had 2 replacement nibs from TWSBI, neither of which worked.

 

I bought a 530 and have had good luck with that pen so no complaints.

 

I also bought a 580 from Pendleton Brown with his Bad Boy with angel wings, however the nib had such bad starvation problems that Pendleton himself couldnt fix it, he had to swap out the nib unit himself.

 

I also recently got a Rose Gold, and it is so incredibly finicky with ink its absurd. IT refuses to write with Pilot Blue or Waterman brown. I Tried a Sailor purple and it worked well for a day, then started skipping like mad and all Philips advice was to try a different ink. I shouldnt have to just try a different ink when Piliot, Pelikan, and waterman are all well behaved inks.

 

The Rose Gold was a gift from my loving girlfriend, so im opting to return the defective one from goulet and buying another from Pendleton because he seems to care more/put more effort into his after sales service.

Man, that is a bummer. I have had 5 and all but 1 has been awesome. I was very disappointed with my 580 though. It wasn't as bad as yours, but I could not get that thing to write consistently. New nibs, different inks, nothing could get that thing to write well. Eventually I just threw it out. I still love TWSBI, but I didn't buy the 580 Rose Gold, due to my issues.

Wanted to chime in. I had some issues with me 530 leaking, and sent to Mr. Wang. Received repaired pen today and it writes wonderfully with no leaks. Will be purchasing more of these pens (I think a mini next). Great service / product.

well, I need help with my twsbi. The feeder or what it's called you screw on the barrel broke off, and the pice won't screw off. Contacted twsbi for help and they sent a video how to unscrew it, well that didn't help and to make matter worse I also found a crack in the barrel.

 

btw, did I say the pen is a twsbi 580, not even 1year old?

I can't see it from the picture. The Goulet Video really helped me learn how to pull these apart and put them back together.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

Where did you have to send your pen for Mr. Wang to repair it, did they cover the shipping, and how long did it take? I am trying to figure this ouy before sending a 580 in for leak repair. Thanks.

I have had a couple of occasions to contact Philip at TWSBI and he has always responded promptly and sometimes very generously. When I asked about updated sections for my Diamond 530 and 540, he sent me some right away. When I sent my Vac 700 in for a balky nib, he repaired it and sent it back in good time. I have five TWSBIs and except for some hard starting with the original Vac 700, they have all performed very well. Extra nibs that I've ordered from them have worked well, too.

 

I've had worse performance with more expensive modern pens from major manufacturers. My TWSBIs have been excellent values and performers overall. They are among my daily use pens.

 

I usually flush new pens with a dilute soap solution and that usually cleans up any residue left from manufacturing and helps the new feeds start up.

 

No complaints about TWSBI customer service in the US.

When The Writing Desk announce that they have FIXED lots of TWSBI pens,does that not tell everybody something about the quality?Why on earth would they HAVE to FIX lots of pens?I bought a new Rose Gold 580 in fine and it is dry and skips.When I contacted TWSBI .Phillip Wang told me to put it on a hard surface and bend it myself.I call that (bleep) service.No more TWSBI for me.

I fix all sorts of pens for customers. Not every customer is confident enough to service their own pen. The TWSBI design does however make it easy for those who DIY and if parts are needed TWSBI is very accommodating. Some TWSBI pens have needed warranty work for but when you considerer that we have sold thousands of TWSBIs a failure rate in the field of only one percent (whether an actual design or manufacturing issue or user error) would still mean 10 pens per thousand sold. That's a hypothetical illustration, BTW.

 

Sorry you had a problem with you Black & Gold 580. Did you buy the pen from us? If so, I would be happy to tweak the nib for you to fix those problems.

Not sure if my question belongs here, but maybe Speedy or The Writing Desk can help me. I seem to have lost the cap to my Diamond 580 (The all transparent version), and I was wondering if there is a way to get a new cap? I really like the pen, but it is unuseable without the cap :(. By the way, apart from the 580, I have 2 Minis, with replacement nibs of different sizes, and have never had any problems with them, they write smoothly without a problem. The only "issue" perhaps is that they drip a bit immediately after the fill, but that is manageable - I just hold the pen vertically over the bottle for 30 seconds until all the excess ink drops out. After that - no more problems. I think that these are among the best pens for the price range, it is not easy to find a piston-filled demonstrator for 40 BGP.
