Twsbi: In Case You Have Problem With Your Twsbi Pen

I have a silly question.... did you open the back of the pen when you were writing? I can tell you that I had this problem on all my pistons (not just TWSBIs) and (and my vac). I just didn't expect to have to keep it open when in use.

If you meant don't screw the piston too tight, no I did not. I have tried writing by loosening up the piston a bit, doesn't help.

I have the same problem -- writes half a page and stops dead. I'm sending it in to be looked at.

They asked me to send it in too, but the costs to send it to them are pretty high and I don't feel like investing money into their current products anymore. I have already bought 5 replacement nibs in total and a twsbi micarta to replace the 580 that has the similar problems. Having spend more than 200 euros already and more time than I have spent on any other pen I don't feel like investing in these pens anymore. If I spent another 50 euros I could have bought a pelikan m800!

They have a good customer service, but at the end of the day it is better to have a proper pen working from the beginning than to spend time and money on it to have it fixed.

My 580 1.1 stub would dry up nib slit problem. Contacted TWSBI got a fast response and new nib sent right away! Now it writes perfect. My micarta had no issues out of the box. I am very happy with TWSBI so far. I have had other new pens with issue's from other manufacturer's also that I paid more money for then the 580. Maybe why I like vintage pens most of the time. I do think I will be buying a vac 700 in the near future. I'm sure it will be fine out of the box if not I know TWSBI will make it right

With reference to the above post: any customer who has bought a pen in the UK should contact their retailer. This is your statutory right under the Sale of Goods Act.

I have fixed lots of TWSBI pens for customers including barrel replacements, piston mechanism repairs (some customers are a little, how shall we say, "hasty" in their approach to disassembly), freeing stuck piston seals, nib adjustments, feed/collar replacements and general cleaning and servicing etc. If you have a problem with a pen you have bought from us please do get in touch.

HTH,

I only discovered this thread the day AFTER ordering a TWSBI Micarta EF. And it made me a worry a little until I saw this entry. Luckily I ordered from The Writing Desk, so now have a warm and fuzzy feeling that things will be ok :)

With any luck, if the Micarta EF works as expected, my kids can keep all the finliners they keep pinching and I'll buy myself a collection of Micartas that I can keep inked with different colours for sketching :D I am excited. Can't wait for the posty to deliver!

The pens usually need some adjustments and then they can work fine with rather small problems, but some of them are just hopeless. A few days ago I tried a different ink for my 580 and it seems to work a lot better, I have tried 5 to 6 different inks before(all known to be inks with good inkflow) and that didn't do the job so I would still say that it is the pens problem( a problem which you can solve, at least 80% of the problem).

WOW! Is all I can say. The TWSBI Micarta EF turned up today and I am fantastically happy!

I sent an email with my nib requirements through to Anna and Martin at The Writing Desk and got a speedy reply that they would test things as I requested.

I unpacked the pen on arrival, filled the converter with Montblanc Mystery Black, made sure the nib was primed and then with great trepidation put pen to paper. Not a single moment of hesitation followed. It is laying down a lovely super fine black line exactly as requested. Even fast drawn wireframe sketch lines are showing no skipping.

I then stood the pen nib up (capped) next to my 149 in my pen stand and left it for a while (not too long as I am VERY excited) and again as soon as the pen touched the paper, it wrote perfectly.

The real test will be in the morning after a night standing and waiting. At the moment I am over the moon though.

Thank you to Anna and Martin for super fast delivery and also making sure the nib is spot on!

Cheers,

Rob

P.S. Here the obligatory sentence - I have no affiliation to The Writing Desk apart from being a very satisfied customer.

I must buy a TWISBI so that I can actually get to see one in the flesh, and see how it writes. They seem to be so popular.

I was going to buy a 540 but by the time I got around to it the narrower oblique nib wasn't available and I couldn't get my colour choice from Goulet Pens because they didn't have any stock, so I gave up when I came back home to the UK.

I got an email from The Writing Desk that they will be at the London Pen Show. If you can get there, I'm sure they'll have some to play around with. Unfortunately I can't make it that day :(

Micarta is one I don't have yet. Glad you're liking yours. The new model Micartas seem to have a dearth of reviews at the moment.

Next day: The TWSBI was just as eager to start up and write first thing this morning as it was yesterday. So at least daily use seems to keep it happy, and I'm not planning on giving it a long rest in the forseeable future anyway ;)

I bought a ROC 540 and had no problems for nearly a year. Always writes perfectly. My cap broke and they sent me a new one with no hassles. Great customer service as far as I am concerned.

Hello all I would like to say that TWSBI has very good customer service. I would also like to say thank you Philip. I had a issue with one of my pens and sent a e-mail to TWSBI and within hours got a e-mail back letting me know how they would help fix my issue. within days got the new part and boom back in business. I hope that we all never have problems with our fountain pens but thing happen. I will not hesitate to buy a TWSBI again and will. thank you again :)

Agreed. Dillon that's a great illustration. Thanks for taking the time to illustrate the problems for everyone.

Dillon thanks as well for the illustration. I was going to get another Twsbi but I may have to reconsider. Do we really believe that a student or a fountain pen newbie is going to know HOW to fix a baby bottom. After all - the Mission station from TWSBI is to increase use of Fountain pens.

A mission station?

I recently bought an NOS 530 clear demonstrator for $20. It's really too beautiful to ink. Working the piston is fun.

I finally got around to sending in my red 530 for replacement of a cracked barrel. Unfortunately red is no longer available so it has been repaired with a 580 barrel (clear). I actually quite like the red cap, clear body and red piston look. I mailed the pen on Saturday afternoon, I received an email from Phillip on Tuesday that all the parts had been replaced and the pen was on its way back to me. I received it on Friday - I can't complain about the turnaround! Good service all around.
