First Bulb Filler

I think this is where this post belongs . This is my first completed bulb filler. It took a bit of trial and error to get the bulb filling system to work, but it fills up like a champ now. I don't know how much ink this thing holds, but it is a lot. It takes about 14 squeezes of the bulb to fill it up completely. The body of the pen isn't perfect, but this was sort of a "get it done" pen for me to use. I think this may end up being my favorite filling system. It's fun to use, and I think it looks cool too .

 

It's made from Alumilite resin that I poured myself. Medium JoWo nib. It's a big pen - 14mm cap threads (triple start), 135mm long uncapped, 147mm capped.

Is the clear resin of the ink window fixed to the alumilite at the nib end of the barrel by CA, or is it a threaded joint?

Thanks everybody! I actually tried for the ripple effect with this pour, but I don't ever think I'll be able to pull it off. I'm happy with the marbled look though .

 

When I think bulb filler, I think big ol' ink window for some reason, so that's what I did. It's about 3.5cm long. I love watching the ink slosh around in there.

Both, actually. It is threaded and sealed with CA. I think the threaded tennon is only about 5mm if I remember, so I wanted it to be strong. I figured threading and CA would be more than strong enough, and prevent leaks for the lifetime of the pen. I thought about shellac for the section, but decided to just put silicon grease on the threads instead so that I can clean the ink window off between fills. It seems to work fine.

Heh, a little more trial and way more error than I'd like to admit. But, now that I've worked it out I think bulb fillers will turn into my favorites. Well, right there with piston fillers at least

Yep, you and me too, Lyle. But there's no denying that eye dropper filling is simple and practical. I noticed that Stipula supplies a syringe with their Passaporto Paparazzi. Perhaps a simple thing like that would make them more appealing to people.
