Someone much more creative than me, could've replaced the words like "manual transmission" with "fountain pen", "automatic" with "keyboard"..."Volkswagen" with "Montblanc"....you get my drift?

That's just sad, whether we're talking vehicles or pens. I'll take my manual transmission Jeep Wrangler for daily driving over just about anything else. And Z loves his little Dodge Neon precisely because it has a manual transmission (Dog knows, that and great gas mileage are the only things that cramped little sardine can has going for it, imho!). I/We only have one auto transmission vehicle--my 1976 Jeep CJ-7. It's my rock crawler, beach dune driving fun Jeep, and there are definite advantages to driving an automatic in those conditions.

 

I'm obviously showing my age. I prefer old cars (my dream car was the 1964 1/2 / early 1965 Mustang, having grown up with them. Hubby finally got one for me for my b'day one year. And I adore my Jeep Wrangler (2002--the youngest vehicle we own), and especially my souped-up V-8 (304), lifted C-J! I also prefer vintage pens, for the most part. And old architecture--Victorian, Arts & Crafts era, ancient old castles like the ones we explore in the UK and Ireland. Even older fashions from the '40s, etc.

 

Still 'n' all, technology has its place. I much prefer computers to old typewriters for everyday use, for example. Solitaire on the computer instead of with paper cards. Fuel injection to carbeurators. Electric lights to kerosene lamps. But when it comes to pens and cars, give me the old ones every time!

 

Which reminds me--does anyone know how to tune a 4 bbl. carbeurator on a '76 Jeep?
