Visconti Michelangelo...

Inkheart

Not to make things more tempting but... as a first pen from an untried manufacturer, you could hardly do better than a Michelangelo. It's a low-risk, high-reward proposition. :D

Careful. Buy one Visconti and the next thing you know, you're ordering multiples of Bryant's LE Skeletons and Ripples. :yikes:

And that purple Cosmos limited edition Nebulus Voyager. :puddle:

Ghost Plane is right, those Skeleton Visconti's look beautiful, and with a matching inkpot. Oh to have lots of money.

I'm waiting to see the Van Gogh Irises version for sale.

I've just been informed that Visconti will discontinue the Michelangelo blue with silver trim and black with rose gold trim, and they will launch 3 new editions: black with silver trim, light blue with gold trim and black with ruthenium trim.

They will be delivered in March and here you have some pictures

Hi novelli,

Thanks for telling us! The one on top (is that supposed to be silver or ruthenium?) looks nice. It's a pity that they're discontinuing the black with rose gold trim, that one looked best in my opinion...

Of these, the new black with ruthenium trim and old black with rose gold trim are my favourites. Though it's the larger Viscontis which truly tempt me.

Won't buy any of them because of the metal section, but apart from that the ruthenium is not my cup of tea (I even do not like tea...)

My dark blue Michelangelo with the silver trim, unless laid next to another truly black barrel, looks black enough to me to make the black/silver option here untempting. (Just as well.)

What I would've LOVED is the blue shown above in rose gold trim, a la the ST Dupont Elysee. Love that combo.

The ruthenium does nothing for me, but I can appreciate its uniqueness for sure. For now, two Michelangelos is plenty. I love them more every time I write them. :)

Another vote for black with ruthenium trim. There are other Visconti FP I want so I won't be buying another Michelangelo. At least I don't think I will.

I would choose the black and silver because the Ruthenium trim just looks dull. I still have the black/rose gold.

Unfortunately I won't be buying one until they also fit a gold nib because I don't like the DreamTouch nibs as much as the 14k gold they used to fit.

Pens and paper everywhere, yet all our hearts did sink,

Pens and paper everywhere, but not a drop of ink.

Ruthenium trim, especially on a dark coloured pen, is a current trend. Some people like, some don't, but it seems to sell well at the moment.

I doubt Visconti will offer Gold nibs again, at least not in the near future. The Palladium nibs are a Viconti trademark (I believe Bock have agreed to supply them exclusively to Visconti) and are liked by most buyers so it's unlikely Visconti will drop them. And, with the nib manufacturer (Bock) having a minimum order size for each nib size, plus tip size, plus material combination (and probably volume discounts for larger orders, and possibly a larger minimum order for the exlusive Palladium nibs), I doubt it's worthwhile for Visconti to stock a full range of nibs in multiple precious metals. It would take a fairly large number of additional sales to offset the additional costs.

Cordovian, how are you liking your Michelangelo in black and ruthenium? If I didn't have other pens in mind I'd be tempted.

I think I meant to get my Michelangelo with a broad nib but it has a medium. I still need to get the converter.

Just now saw this post....

I have to say that my Michelangelo Back to Black has become my favorite pen. I haven't even inked my Deltas, Graf, MB or Montegrappa in months. I was concerned about the black trim not holding up well to wear but I have been using it daily at the office for almost three months now and it still looks great. Mine has a medium nib that is so smooth and lays down ink so evenly that you'd think it was a broad. I honestly think a broad would be too much nib.
